19. April 2020This year’s Logistics Day of the Federal Association of Logistics (BVL) had to take place virtually due to the Corona crisis. 75 events were held online and recorded around 800,000 visitors. All social media channels were utilized. Federal Minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer launched the campaign ‘Logistics helps’
(Bremen, 17.04.2020) The Corona crisis has made visible what has been the message of the action day ‘Logistics Day’ for 13 years: Logistics and supply chain management are systemically relevant and ensure the supply of our society. While companies across Germany and many other countries usually open their doors to give the public insight, this year’s action day was completely moved online.
75 virtual events were on offer, and there were also videos, stories, and hashtag campaigns on social networks. Across all social media platforms, the hashtag #tagderlogistik reached around 800,000 people yesterday. The tweets from the account @tagderlogistik were displayed in the timelines of 5,000 people. The interaction rate was 3.7 percent. The hashtag #tagderlogistik repeatedly appeared in the Twitter trends for Germany, among the most popular topics on Twitter.
Federal Minister Scheuer launches ‘Logistics helps’ campaign Federal Minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer and Parliamentary State Secretary Steffen Bilger used Logistics Day to officially launch the ‘Logistics helps’ campaign, including via live stream from the Rhenus Logistics Center Großbeeren near Berlin. Scheuer was already a guest on the ARD morning magazine discussing the topic. The aim of the campaign is to improve the situation for truck drivers at ramps, borders, and rest areas. Bilger also appeared in the internet live show ‘Fernfahrer TV’ and discussed via video chat with three drivers and a business owner.
At most events, the changed image and the new, positive view of the public on logistics were also evident. In a video podcast by Amazon with four last-mile delivery drivers, one of the participants said: ‘You feel better too. I come home now and feel like I have done something important.’ Other highlights among the many exciting online events included Facebook and Instagram stories from trainees of the logistics service providers BLG Logistics and F.W. Neukirch. Virtual tours at FIR at RWTH Aachen and through the Innovation Lab Hybrid Services in Logistics in Dortmund showcased examples from logistics research.
Short-term transition of offerings to digital “We are pleased that many companies and institutes have bravely embraced this new digital path and have quickly transitioned their offerings to virtual events. This way, we were able to give logistics and supply chain management the stage they deserve this year, despite Corona. We sincerely thank everyone who participated,” says Prof. Thomas Wimmer, Chairman of the Board of BVL. Wimmer himself gave a specialist lecture in the afternoon at the online conference of the Hellenic Institute for Logistics Management on the impacts of the Corona pandemic on logistics in Europe.
In fact, for many engaged companies and organizations, it was a premiere; they seized the opportunity to interact with the public for the first time using formats such as webinars, video conferences, or Facebook watch parties.
For the next Logistics Day, the initiator BVL wishes for a mix of real company visits and virtual offerings. The date for this is April 15, 2021.
