Dachser Celebrates Groundbreaking for New Logistics Center in Erfurt
7. May 2020Deutsche Post DHL Group Reports Strong Development in Q1 2020
12. May 2020Swissterminal AG is entering the warehousing sector for the first time. With the supply chain solution ‘Break & Make Bulk’, the Swiss expert for domestic and intermodal solutions will integrate a comprehensive warehousing offering for all common consumer goods into its terminal, depot, and transport services at its main location in Frenkendorf near Basel starting July 2020.
(Frenkendorf, 12.05.2020) The name Break & Make Bulk is programmatic: Swissterminal breaks down bulk goods or assembles them. Services include receiving goods at the warehouse, customs clearance, palletizing, X-docking or interim storage in the warehouse, as well as shipping by truck or train – both for imports and exports.
Through intelligent and efficient processes, Swissterminal optimizes logistics with Break & Make Bulk. At the center is a modern warehouse with an integrated rail connection. In addition to daily train connections to various ports via Swissterminal in Frenkendorf, regular connections to China are also available. The warehouse also features loading ramps for trucks.
With the new offering, the company is not only expanding its portfolio with a warehousing product but is also entering the handling of conventional freight trains alongside the container business. Compared to standard containers, conventional freight wagons have a higher capacity, which can lead to significant synergy effects in the supply chain.
A key advantage of Break & Make Bulk is the reduction of cargo transfers on the road – both within Switzerland and to and from seaports. Instead, Swissterminal offers the possibility to consolidate goods in Frenkendorf and transport them bundled by train or truck to their destination. Customers thus minimize emissions when shipping their goods and significantly reduce transport costs. Furthermore, the service provides more flexibility for companies to respond to fluctuating goods flows and alleviates individual storage spaces.
Depending on the need, Swissterminal either handles the delivery/pickup of all commercially available consumer goods at the customer’s location or processes the batches directly at the warehouse. During transport by truck or train, live tracking of the goods is possible at any time. The shipping process is significantly improved through extended cut-off times for distribution and picking in the warehouse. A high quality standard, efficient customs clearance, and short communication channels complete the service.
Roman Mayer, CEO of Swissterminal, explains: ‘The name of our new product says it all: We break bulk and we make bulk. Thus, shippers and freight forwarders benefit from significant cost and emission savings as well as more flexibility. We are very pleased to now support our customers with a holistic and optimized logistics concept for warehousing, terminal and depot services, as well as transport services.’
