28. May 2020Lagermax Lagerhaus und Speditions AG, based in Salzburg, is advancing digitalization in time for its 100th anniversary. The main and backup data centers will be consolidated in conova’s data centers in the future.
(Salzburg) 100 years of Lagermax, 100 years of growth — the Salzburg family business is using its anniversary as an opportunity to set the course for the future. The focus is clearly on digitalization. And the solid foundation for this has already been established: The main and backup data centers of the Lagermax Group will be consolidated and geo-redundantly operated in conova’s local data centers.
Centralization of Core Applications
Digitalization in the transport and logistics sector means, among other things, linking data systems of customers and partners and providing essential information for the optimal use of capacities and for optimized process control quickly and reliably. The IT systems in the background must function without fail. Lagermax has therefore decided to centralize all essential core applications. “Our goal was to establish business processes that are international and data-driven and to build system availability in a new dimension as a basis for this. From now on, we will rely on uniform, central systems for all our branches, where over 3,700 employees are employed. These will be operated geo-redundantly in the data centers of our partner conova,” explains Johannes Krenn, CIO of Lagermax, the reasons for the centralization. Conova is the largest data center operator in the region and, as a 100% Salzburg-based company, a pioneer in the field of geo-redundancy.
Data Always Within Reach
The entire server landscape of Lagermax will be divided between the conova headquarters and the newly built data centers in Hallein. The connection between the data centers will be realized via encrypted interconnects.
“In our industry, the factor of time is crucial. Downtimes or even system outages would be fatal. Therefore, high availability and 24×7 support were decisive factors in choosing the right partner. At the same time, we are also aware of the existential value of our data and therefore want to have it within reach of our headquarters. That is why we consciously chose a local provider, true to our motto of thinking globally and acting locally,” Krenn continues. “We are very pleased that the renowned company Lagermax has entrusted us with its IT systems,” says Günther Rohrecker, authorized signatory and Chief Sales Officer of conova, satisfied. “We also enable constant access to the systems through a remote hands service. Thus, especially in times of access and travel restrictions, it is ensured that the central IT is well taken care of around the clock,” Rohrecker concludes.
