Proactive Visibility in Supply Chain is Becoming More Important
12. June 2020Robust or Efficient Supply Chains – That Is the Question
15. June 2020DB Cargo and Kombiverkehr are expanding their shuttle between the ports of Antwerp and Duisburg. The additional capacities amount to up to 9,000 containers, trailers, and swap bodies per year.
(Antwerp/Mainz/Frankfurt) Space available for more loading units: DB Cargo and Kombiverkehr are expanding their shuttle between the port of Antwerp and Duisburg. From now on, instead of 60 TEU, up to 90 TEU can be transported per train. This adds up to an additional 9,000 containers, trailers, and swap bodies on the environmentally friendly rail per year. This means relieving the roads by about 10,000 trucks. This is more important now than ever: Long-term construction work for a ring road around the Belgian city (Oosterweel connection) will significantly restrict the road in the future.
Starting in autumn 2020, additional trains are expected to run from Antwerp to the Ruhr area. Furthermore, DB Cargo plans to integrate the West ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp more strongly into its network by the end of the year. An important building block for more growth in rail freight transport.
Shipping companies, freight forwarders, and the shipping economy benefit from fast transit times and a dense network on the rail: After just 5 hours with the possibility of late loading in Antwerp and early pickup, shipments reach Duisburg, where they can also be further transported within the Kombiverkehr network. In Germany, for example, to Ludwigshafen, Munich, and Leipzig, or across Europe to Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, France, Scandinavia, or even Turkey.
