19. June 2020The Works and Industrial Railways division of RheinCargo takes over the shunting and loading operations for the Shell tank farms in Flörsheim and Ludwigshafen. This agreement further deepens the collaboration between the two partners.
(Flörsheim/Ludwigshafen) Last year, the logistics service provider RheinCargo established a new business unit called “Works and Industrial Railways.” In a very short time, this division has become productive within the company. The latest example: RheinCargo is now responsible for the shunting and loading operations at the Shell tank farms in Flörsheim and Ludwigshafen.
“The cooperation with Shell once again demonstrates how flexibly RheinCargo can respond to market demands,” says the responsible department head Peter Jacobs. From the commissioning to implementation, including training and briefings, only two months passed – right in the middle of the lockdown phase of the Corona pandemic. Jacobs: “Also due to this unusual constellation and the associated challenges, we are very pleased that the start went so smoothly. We received excellent support from our colleagues at Shell.”
Various Services Included
At the tank farms in Ludwigshafen and Flörsheim, RheinCargo takes over the shunting trips, the filling of tank cars, the operation of loading facilities, and other services such as hose monitoring during ship transshipment. Operations take place six days a week (Monday to Saturday) around the clock. A total of 22 jobs were created on-site, for which new employees were hired or engaged from personnel service providers. With further training and continuing education, RheinCargo can also offer colleagues a long-term perspective.
RheinCargo plans to engage even more in the Rhine-Main area alongside other projects. “The quality of our works and industrial railway services speaks for RheinCargo, which is positively perceived in the market. We have received further inquiries for services of this kind, which are being thoroughly examined,” says Wolfgang Birlin, RheinCargo Managing Director for the Rail Freight Transport sector.
