(Langenfeld) The readers of the trade magazine ‘materialfluss’ have decided: The night delivery to parcel stations using the ParcelLock system has achieved 2nd place in the ‘Product of the Year 2020’ vote in the logistics category. A large portion of participants voted for the cooperation project of ParcelLock, Würth, and nox NachtExpress during the reader poll.
The idea behind the pilot project launched in 2019: urgently needed spare parts are delivered to a parcel station with the ParcelLock system before the start of work. There, the recipient can pick up the delivery at a time that suits them – for example, on their way to their customer. With this offer, nox NachtExpress makes the advantages of early morning delivery easily accessible to all industries and potentially also to end consumers, planning to make it available nationwide at all ParcelLock parcel station locations by the end of 2020.
Night Delivery to Parcel Stations Has Many Advantages
The urgently needed spare parts are delivered before 8 a.m., optionally also before 7 a.m. or 6 a.m. on the next working day after the order. This benefits shippers and customers, but also nox as a transport service provider: nox NachtExpress can guarantee first-attempt deliveries compared to traditional parcel services, thereby increasing customer satisfaction and saving costly second delivery attempts. For the customer, receiving time-sensitive goods – e.g., spare parts for industrial plants – is now also possible in the early morning hours without cumbersome key concepts or risky placement at freely accessible drop-off locations.
Since the ParcelLock-compatible Würth parcel stations also offer compartments for larger B2B shipments, bulkier items can also be delivered here, and parcel volumes can be cleverly bundled. The individual compartments are opened via a QR code, which the delivery driver and the recipient have received via email beforehand. nox is the first night express service provider to use the open ParcelLock system.
Relief of Daytime Traffic
Among the winners of this keyless solution is also inner-city traffic and thus the environment. Because 85% of the shipments transported by nox NachtExpress reach their destination by 6 a.m. the next working day. Thus, during peak commuting hours, the shipments are already at their destination. This sustainable solution also benefits the environment: there are usually no traffic jams and stop-and-go traffic at night. This results in lower greenhouse gas emissions and improves the quality of life for everyone.
“We are happy and proud to be recognized by readers in this way,” says Maya Landahl, Business Development Manager at nox NachtExpress and responsible for the project. “The vote shows that the advantages of night express delivery are convincing and are interesting for many companies beyond the core industries such as automotive, agricultural technology, and healthcare.”
Donald Pilz, CEO of the company, adds: “Logistics is currently facing numerous challenges – including increasing traffic in cities and the costs of multiple delivery attempts, as well as the challenge of delivering as contactless as possible. Thanks to the cooperation with ParcelLock and Würth, we can offer a quickly implementable solution that goes beyond traditional keyless delivery to the trunk, a safe, or into the building.”
