1. July 2020The drugstore chain BUDNI, Budnikowsky GmbH & Co. KG, from Hamburg becomes a partner in the parcel shop network of DPD. The pickup parcel shops are now available in around 100 BUDNI stores in the Hamburg and Berlin regions. This is also intended to bring additional customers into the stores. After a trial phase, a long-term partnership is to be established.
(Hamburg/Aschaffenburg) The Hamburg-based drugstore chain BUDNI (Budnikowsky GmbH & Co. KG) will be a strategic partner in the parcel shop network of the international parcel and express service provider DPD. Starting now, there will be a pickup parcel shop in nearly 100 BUDNI stores in the metropolitan region of Hamburg as well as in Berlin. This means that more than every second BUDNI location in Hamburg now offers the sending, receiving, and returning of parcels. Both companies aim for a long-term partnership. This follows a one-year trial phase in 20 Hamburg BUDNI stores.
“We want to make our customers’ lives easier and accept parcels like a good neighbor. Furthermore, we see this as an opportunity to relieve streets and the environment,” explains Christoph Wöhlke, Managing Director of Budnikowsky GmbH & Co. KG.
Mutual Synergies
Michael Knaupe, Chief Communications & Customer Experience Officer of DPD Germany, adds: “We are very excited that the BUDNI stores complement our nationwide network in Germany. With BUDNI, we gain a partner that combines ideal locations and opening hours with a high level of quality and service awareness. The importance of parcel shops as drop-off points will significantly increase in the coming years, leading more and more online shoppers to the stores of our partners.”
In dialogue, the two partners want to further advance digital networking, for example on DPD’s digital platforms. Another common concern is sustainable logistics. DPD transports all parcels completely climate-neutral at no extra charge. In downtown Hamburg, the delivery and collection of parcels is also completely emission-free with a variety of electric vehicles.
On the digital channels, parcel recipients who are not at home during the day can specifically select their preferred BUDNI store as their desired parcel shop. If desired, all shipments or alternatively individual parcels can be redirected to a freely chosen BUDNI store. Recipients receive a digital notification as soon as their parcel is ready for pickup at BUDNI. This notification also includes a digital voucher, allowing parcel pickers to benefit from promotions and discounts in their BUDNI store. “Our experience shows that parcel pickers in the stores actually generate significant sales – especially when the digitally displayed vouchers create an additional incentive,” explains Michael Knaupe.
Additional Service for Customers
And this is how it works for customers: In all participating stores, customers can now quickly and conveniently send parcels to Germany as well as to EU countries. Payment is made online. Printing a parcel label is not necessary; showing a QR code on the smartphone is sufficient. Billing is based on size, and all parcels are automatically insured up to a value of 520 euros. Returning parcels is equally simple. The processing on-site takes only a few seconds thanks to the latest technology. Just last year, DPD equipped the 7,500 pickup parcel shops across Germany with the latest generation of handheld scanners.
