3. July 2020DSV is planning an investment of approximately 2 billion DKK for Europe’s largest logistics center with a single tenant. This massive project is set to be built on around 700,000 m² in Horsens, Denmark. The groundbreaking is scheduled for August 2021.
(Horsens/DK) The logistics facilities in and around the city of Horsens in Jutland, Denmark, can no longer accommodate the current and expected growth of DSV. At the same time, DSV wants to consolidate its warehousing and cross-docking terminals in the Horsens region to ensure higher efficiency and productivity while maintaining a more environmentally friendly profile and lower CO2 emissions. Therefore, DSV will build a future-proof logistics center on an area of 700,000 m² in Horsens.
“At DSV, we focus on the growth of our business. As part of our growth strategy, we want to consolidate all our activities in the areas of air & sea, road, and logistics solutions at one location to ensure that our operations are efficient and that we offer the best possible solutions. Furthermore, Horsens is a strategic hub for transport between the Nordic countries and all other European countries. We also want to retain our many talented employees and maintain our connection to the city with this new development,” says Simon H. Galsgaard, Managing Director of DSV Road A/S in Denmark.
Europe’s Largest Logistics Center
Our new logistics center will be built on the site next to our current facilities in Horsens. It will not only be Denmark’s but also Europe’s largest logistics center with a single tenant. The office will encompass 18,000 m² of office space, the cross-docking terminal will occupy approximately 50,000 m², and the storage facilities will range between 200,000 and 269,000 m².
“To date, this is DSV’s largest construction project, and we look forward to the new and enormous potential it offers us. It is part of our strategy to consolidate smaller locations and create larger, modern, and future-proof facilities that benefit both sides, the customers and us. The new logistics center in Horsens is characterized, among other things, by a high level of automated processes that ensure fast and efficient handling of large volumes,” says Simon H. Galsgaard.
The Largest Sale of Land for Industrial Purposes
For the city of Horsens, this is a historically significant sale of land for industrial purposes. “As far as I know, this is the largest sale of land for industrial purposes in the history of Horsens. I am very pleased that DSV has decided to place its new logistics center in our municipality. Today, DSV employs around 750 people in Horsens, and with the expansion, this number is expected to rise to over 1,000.
In addition to administrative positions, DSV also offers jobs in transport and storage. For this reason, I am also very pleased that we have reached this agreement regarding the sale of 500,000 m² of land to DSV,” says Peter Sørensen, Mayor of Horsens. He emphasizes that the construction project will provide more jobs during the construction phase.
“Building a facility of this size means that many additional jobs will be available during the construction phase, which local craftsmen and transport companies will benefit from. According to DSV’s estimates, it could be 250 jobs,” says Peter Sørensen.
