Jul 10, 2020 at 6:02 AMThe Elbe has an unusually high water level for this time of year this summer. This also benefits the Saxon Inland Ports Oberelbe GmbH, which has been able to carry out several large loadings at the Alberthafen in Dresden-Friedrichstadt in recent days.
(Dresden) Thanks to the unusually good summer water levels of the Elbe, Saxon Inland Ports Oberelbe GmbH (SBO) has been able to carry out several large loadings at the Alberthafen Dresden-Friedrichstadt in recent days.
The first was a 123-ton transformer from Norway, which arrived by inland ship from Hamburg
and was unloaded with the SBO heavy-duty crane LR 1600/2. This was followed by four motors with a total weight of 354 tons and a generator weighing 156 tons, all of which were transported by inland ship towards Hamburg.
The ship transports were carried out by SBO in cooperation with its partner DBR (Deutsche Binnenreederei AG) as part of the Elbe Project Cargo Line (EPCL) service. The truck pre- and post-haulage to/from the Alberthafen Dresden was also handled by an SBO partner: KAHL Schwerlast GmbH.
“These transports once again demonstrate how important the Elbe waterway is for machinery and plant engineering,” explains SBO Managing Director Heiko Loroff. “After the two extreme low-water years of 2018 and 2019, we can now also take advantage of the good Elbe water levels in summer to reliably and smoothly deliver large loadings to their destination.”
