16. July 2020Logistics Portrait of the Day: Jörg Arnold
16. July 2020The logistics service provider Dachser has begun construction on a new branch in the northern Hesse economic region of Kassel. A transshipment warehouse for industrial goods with an adjacent office building will be built in the Lohfelden industrial area by summer 2021. In the medium term, around 200 new jobs will be created.
(Kassel-Lohfelden) In the presence of Dr. Alexander Friedrich Wachter, Vice President of the Kassel Presidency, and Norbert Thielen, Deputy Mayor of Lohfelden, Michael Schilling, COO Road Logistics at Dachser, and Alexander Tonn, Managing Director European Logistics Germany, who is responsible for the transport and storage of industrial goods in Germany, the symbolic first groundbreaking took place today.
“From the new branch in Kassel, all European economic centers can be reached within 24 or 48 hours via the dense Dachser network. Dachser customers across Europe benefit from fast transit times and our consistently high service quality,” explains Andreas Fritsch, General Manager of the Dachser Logistics Center Ostwestfalen-Lippe in Bad Salzuflen, regarding the strategic relevance of the new location. Andreas Fritsch will take responsibility for the new location in Kassel Lohfelden as part of the Bad Salzuflen group, while Mathias Oetter will lead the branch locally. The strong industrial production in the region will account for a large part of the customers for the new Dachser branch, Fritsch adds.
The new location is conveniently located
The new location in the center of Germany is conveniently situated at the highway interchange of the A7, A44, and A49 motorways. Construction on the approximately 78,000 square meter site in the Lohfelden industrial area began in April. The ground area of the transshipment hall is approximately 6,400 square meters. A total of 78 gates will be available for loading and unloading trucks. The hall is complemented by a 2,500 square meter office building.
With the new building in Kassel, Dachser completes its own piece goods network for industrial goods in Germany and replaces its long-standing regional partner Schmelz Transport and Logistics. The good and trusting cooperation will continue until the completion of the new Dachser branch next year.
