17. July 2020The intralogistics service provider Dematic is launching a new fulfillment solution for the protein industry. The system automates picking, distribution, and shipping, enabling more efficient order processing and minimizing errors.
(Heusenstamm) Dematic is launching a new version of an order fulfillment solution specifically developed for the supply chain of the protein industry. The solution automates picking, distribution, and shipping, which are often labor-intensive processes. It can handle both chilled and frozen protein products (fish, poultry, and meat) in a single system. At its core is a Dematic Multishuttle system that automatically stores, buffers, sorts, and sequences products for picking and order assembly. The solution is complemented by a Dematic conveyor system, picking stations, optional robotic palletizing, and autonomous transport systems. Also integrated is the Dematic iQ software, which controls all logistical processes, provides tracking functions, ensures accuracy, and minimizes errors in picking. Thus, the Dematic Automated Order Fulfillment solution not only achieves more efficient order processing but also ensures continuous real-time transparency.
Automated Processes
“Increasing demands in the protein industry have made it impossible for manufacturers to rely on manual order processing systems. With our solution, all processes in order fulfillment can be fully automated, significantly increasing speed, storage density, freshness, accuracy, and availability,” says Jessica Heinz, Head of Marketing and Business Development Dematic Central Europe. The solution is specifically tailored to the increasingly complex customer orders regarding package sizes and types as well as short delivery times. At the center of the system is a Dematic Multishuttle, capable of picking multiple stock keeping units (SKUs) from the same aisle simultaneously, thereby significantly increasing system throughput. The shuttle’s telescopic arms can handle a wider range of container types and conditions in different temperature environments from chilled to frozen. Multi-depth storage and the patented inter-aisle transfer ensure smooth goods exchange across various shuttle aisles, enabling very high storage density. “This allows the system to better utilize available space and save energy and cooling costs,” says Heinz. The Dematic Automated Order Fulfillment solution for the protein industry is modular and scalable. It can be expanded according to individual requirements or supplemented with other proven standardized Dematic systems. For example, conveyors, picking and palletizing robots, as well as autonomous transport vehicles can be integrated into the solution. Automation also improves safety and ergonomics in the warehouse, as manual handling of heavy boxes in a cold working environment is eliminated. The processes are controlled via the Dematic iQ software, which simultaneously ensures that all items can be found in real-time and provides complete track and trace functions. It also offers algorithms for a variety of retrieval scenarios. “Our solution thus ensures more efficient order processing and helps companies gain a competitive advantage through automation technology,” summarizes Heinz.
