(Lauterach / Kalsdorf) Gebrüder Weiss is expanding in Styria: On July 22, the official groundbreaking for a new location with a total area of 70,000 square meters in Kalsdorf near Graz took place. The logistics terminal, designed for 26 million euros, will replace the current location. The previous facility on Alte Poststraße had recently reached its capacity limits. Construction for the new terminal already began in April. The originally planned groundbreaking was postponed due to the coronavirus crisis. The opening of the new branch is planned for the upcoming spring.
Consolidating Orders in One Place
“Upon completion, we will have a state-of-the-art logistics location for our customers and our 180 employees. With this facility, we can also consolidate orders that were previously distributed across several operating sites in the region,” says Gerhard Haas, Branch Manager of Gebrüder Weiss Graz. “The new facility enables more efficient processes and further development for the Styrian market – also towards home delivery. Despite the coronavirus crisis, we decided to take this important step for Graz’s development.”
Conveniently Located with Large Storage and Handling Area
The Gebrüder Weiss location in Graz handled around 670,000 shipments in 2019. For one of the growth drivers, the home delivery business, a dozen vehicles are in operation daily, distributing up to 300 shipments to end customers. Customers of the branch come from the stationary retail and e-commerce sectors, as well as from the automotive, metal, woodworking, and machinery industries. “After nine months of construction, we will have a logistics hall of 16,500 square meters, 6,500 square meters for handling, and 4,000 square meters of office space,” Gerhard Haas measures the dimensions of the new building. “Conveniently located near the A9 and the Graz-West junction, we will be even faster at the shippers and their customers.”
