Zülpich, 03.08.2020. The company Fiege is establishing a new logistics center in Zülpich, North Rhine-Westphalia. Centrally located in the triangle of Cologne-Bonn-Aachen, a multi-user center is being built with 54,000 square meters of logistics space, consisting of warehouse space, office, and social rooms. On August 3, 2020, Fiege celebrated the start of construction in the presence of NRW Minister of Transport Hendrik Wüst, District Administrator Günter Rosenke, Mayor Ulf Hürtgen, and other representatives from the city of Zülpich, the investor LIP Invest, the architectural firm Jürgen Schlake, and the general contractor Goldbeck International. The logistics property is expected to be completed by summer 2021. Fiege will operate the facility for various customers. The investment sum for the new construction project is around 50 million euros.
Supply to Healthcare Facilities Across Europe
“The construction will be completed in just under a year. Then Zülpich will be a new important location for our growing healthcare business area,” says Jan Fiege, Managing Director Real Estate. “The site in Zülpich fits very well into our requirements profile. It is conveniently located near the A1 and A61 motorways.” From Zülpich, Fiege will supply healthcare facilities across Europe, such as hospitals or specialized dealers for medical products, with products from various customers in the pharmaceutical sector.
To realize the first construction phase, Fiege has acquired a 100,000 square meter commercial area in the Zülpich industrial park “An der Römerallee.”
At Least 250 Jobs
“We are pleased that Fiege, one of the leading European logistics providers, is settling in Zülpich with this labor-intensive large project, which was unanimously approved by the Zülpich politics in the council meeting on November 28, 2019,” emphasizes Mayor Ulf Hürtgen. “It is also encouraging that the company has recognized the opportunities for further logistics activities at the Zülpich economic location and that the settlement project of Fiege has found a more than adequate replacement for the originally planned establishment of an e-commerce warehouse on the site,” Hürtgen further states.
The symbolic first groundbreaking marks the start of a settlement project that will create at least 250 additional full-time jobs in the first construction phase in Zülpich. The option granted to Fiege to acquire an adjacent commercial area opens up the perspective for the Zülpich location that the number of jobs could even grow to more than 500 in the coming years.
