Metro with Rapid Recovery in Q3 of Fiscal Year 2019/20

10. August 2020With the software PROLAG®World, the logistics software developer CIM GmbH promotes sustainable business practices and green process optimization even in intralogistics. The software not only reduces energy consumption but also minimizes waste.
(PressBox, Fürstenfeldbruck) Sustainable business practices and green process optimization are also on the rise in intralogistics. With PROLAG®World, CIM GmbH makes its customers’ warehouses not only more sustainable but also more cost-efficient: The warehouse management system ensures lower CO2 emissions by reducing energy consumption, as well as a careful use of resources and a reduction of waste through optimized material management.
The mere transition from paper-based work to digital process management, as introduced with PROLAG®World, leads to a significant reduction in material usage. Additionally, almost self-evident functions such as route optimization or two-stage picking contribute to reducing energy consumption in the warehouse. Both functions ensure that forklifts are guided through the warehouse on the shortest paths, thus requiring less energy. PROLAG®World offers users many more levers for sustainable logistics processes in the warehouse.
In the Savings Aisle: 50 Percent Less Energy Consumption
In the automatic warehouse of a large Austrian textile manufacturer, the introduction of PROLAG®World reduced energy consumption by around 50 percent. Depending on the degree of utilization and the length of the travel distance, PROLAG®World controls the storage retrieval devices in the warehouse at different speeds. Moreover, the system automatically shuts down unused resources to systematically reduce CO2 emissions. A practical side effect: The “savings aisle” of the storage retrieval devices protects the material, reduces wear and tear, and extends the lifespan of the components.
Less Waste in the Warehouse and for Customers
Order consolidation, for example, used by a southern German beverage manufacturer, reduces packaging material and transport distances by bundling delivery orders so that they are delivered together with a transport vehicle whenever possible. Similarly sustainable is the management of packaging units by a bedding manufacturer. It saves time and costs during the packing process: The appropriate packaging unit for an order is displayed at the packing station. This avoids unnecessary waste of packaging material and associated costs.
Reuse of Returns and Leftover Pieces
Sustainable material usage and waste reduction are ensured by the PROLAG®World functions of de-kitting and leftover management, which are used by CIM customers in production. With de-kitting, finished parts or returns can be easily disassembled using software support. For example, individual defective components can be replaced without having to dispose of the entire finished part. The leftover management ensures optimal material and cost utilization, as leftover pieces are returned to the warehouse and thus available for new production orders. This process is optimized to the extent that hardly any leftover pieces need to be disposed of.
“The mentioned functions are just a few examples of green features in PROLAG®World,” explains Daniel Wöhr, press officer of CIM GmbH. Since sustainability is deeply rooted in the company’s philosophy, the CIM innovation department continuously provides new solutions for its customers. The great advantage: Functions that ensure sustainable logistics also save companies costs, making them doubly interesting.
