Dachser’s Compass Points in the Right Direction
10. August 2020DKV Euro Service Launches Pilot Phase for Its Own Toll Boxes in Italy
11. August 2020Kombiverkehr expands its services to and from Italy. There are now six round trips per week between Hanover and Verona. This service has proven to be one of the most stable during the Corona crisis. The Munich-Melzo train will be relocated to Milano Smistamento, increasing flexibility.
(Frankfurt/Main) With an increase in capacity and a terminal relocation in the traffic between Germany and the important trading partner Italy, Kombiverkehr KG offers its customers from freight forwarding and logistics an expanded range of intermodal services on this significant European transport corridor. Starting September 7, the existing service on the Hanover – Verona route will be increased from five to six weekly train departures in both directions. Additionally, trains that previously operated between Munich-Riem and the Melzo terminal will reach the terminal in Milano Smistamento from the same date.
One More Round Trip Between Hanover and Verona
“Since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, the Hanover train has been one of the most stable services in Southern European traffic via Brenner to Italy. Hardly any train departures had to be canceled. Now we can announce the expansion to six departures. Especially the transport of food for daily needs and as raw materials for the processing industry, which is increasingly handled in intermodal transport, was decisive for the frequency expansion,” comments Peter Dannewitz, Head of Sales, on the adjustment of this service offering, which has been available for several years and exemplifies Kombiverkehr’s particularly sustainable market offering. “And with the terminal relocation to Milano, we strengthen our network through a multitude of additional gateway options within Italy, thereby increasing flexibility for our customers.”
Partner Mercitalia
The additional train departure on the Hanover – Verona route will be on Saturdays in both directions. The existing departures in the north-south direction from Monday to Friday, as well as the departures in the south-north direction from Tuesday to Friday and on Saturday, will remain unchanged with attractive acceptance deadlines and pickup start times. Thus, with two Saturday departures from Verona Quadrante Europa, the company meets the customers’ request to realize the return of many loading units over the weekend, so that the equipment can be used promptly in the region around Hanover at the start of the week. The intermodal connection, operated in close cooperation with the Italian partner Mercitalia Intermodal, is bookable for swap bodies, tank containers, and trailers with a profile up to P/C 400 and is approved for all hazardous goods except classes 1 and 7. “We offer Italian freight forwarders in unaccompanied combined transport Germany-Italy via Brenner today around 100 train departures per week and multi-day departures from selected German terminals, providing a comprehensive service offering for climate-friendly logistics with added value,” adds Dannewitz. On the 1,045-kilometer-long train connection, users save more than 1.5 tons of environmentally harmful CO2 when transporting a 25-ton trailer compared to continuous road freight transport. With forwarding services to and from Bari and Nola in southern Italy, the positive climate and energy balance can be further improved compared to continuous road freight transport due to the additional kilometers on the rail.
Milano Smistamento
The forwarding options available on many of the Kombiverkehr trains within Germany or within the countries connected to the international network allow freight forwarders and logistics companies to benefit from one-stop-shop transport. To leverage this advantage in the traffic between Munich and the greater Milan area, Kombiverkehr will no longer serve the terminal in Melzo starting in early September, but rather Milano Smistamento. From this significant northern Italian rail hub, forwarding services to and from Pomezia, Napoli, and Catania in central and southern Italy are available. The Munich – Milano Smistamento train will be offered three times a week in each direction: from Munich on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and from Milano Smistamento on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
