12. August 2020The EMS service provider BMK achieved an optimization of the supply chain by establishing a branch in Changzhou. This has given BMK control over purchasing, logistics, and transportation. This has already paid off during the Corona crisis.
(Augsburg/Changzhou) BMK established a location in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, in 2019. This optimizes BMK’s global supply chain.
BMK’s purchasing volume in China grew steadily. Initially, PCBs were primarily purchased, followed by components. This led to the decision to open its own location in China. The main tasks of the branch include component and supplier sourcing, logistics and transport management, as well as quality management. Cultural and linguistic differences, which often pose a hurdle in German-Chinese collaboration, are overcome with the local BMK team, consisting of Chinese and Germans.
Udo Jaekel, General Manager, BMK electronics Changzhou, confirms: “China is the world’s largest electronics components market. Being on-site allows us to respond flexibly and quickly to market changes. It secures access to sources that are not available in Europe.”
Services of BMK in Changzhou
BMK in Changzhou selects suitable suppliers and purchases electronic components. In addition, BMK China offers value-added services such as assembly, various component preparations, and adjustments. Quality management includes quality controls at suppliers on-site according to German standards, complaint management, and goods receipt inspection. This is followed by handling and support in the logistics area.
With the location in Changzhou, BMK optimizes its procurement strategy and creates another BMKdelta. “BMK operates consolidations of deliveries through the location. This conserves resources and saves costs,” says Jaekel.
Proven During the Corona Crisis in China
Especially at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the BMK location in China was a significant delta. Through local contacts, the situation could be quickly analyzed. BMK reacted quickly and proactively to impending delivery failures. Together with the task force established in Germany, production failures and bottlenecks for our customers were prevented. Additionally, the local team professionally and cost-effectively managed freight space bottlenecks during transportation.
