17. August 2020The groundbreaking for the logistics center of Imbach Logistik AG took place in Littauerboden near Lucerne. The new building offers around 30,000 square meters of workspace. A total of 60 jobs will be created. With this project, Imbach is making a clear statement in a challenging economic environment.
(Schachen/Littauerboden) A new logistics center for Imbach Logistik AG is being built on approximately 30,000 m2 in Littauerboden near Lucerne. Among other things, a fully automated high-bay warehouse with 6,500 pallet spaces and a fully automated small parts warehouse for up to 130,000 containers will be constructed. Additionally, a photovoltaic system with a maximum output of 1,000 kilowatt-hours will be installed – the annual production will amount to 950,000 kilowatt-hours, which would be sufficient for 210 households. All of this shows: The new logistics center of Imbach Logistik AG has a lot to offer. Today, Thursday, the groundbreaking took place. “With this construction, we are equipped for the market needs of the future,” says Christian Kempter-Imbach, Managing Director of Imbach Logistik AG, headquartered in Schachen LU. “The new building provides the foundation for modern, tailored, efficient, and ecological services in the logistics sector.” Central to this is the management of goods for customers, ranging from storing products to order picking and shipping to recipients.
60 New Jobs
Imbach is already active at the mentioned location. The new logistics center is being built in two phases. The first phase is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2022. The second phase will last until autumn 2024, during which the existing halls will make way for the new construction. This will eventually house around 60 jobs. The total area across all floors amounts to 30,000 square meters – equivalent to four football fields. Notably, the arrangement of the high-bay and small parts warehouses is unique: the high-bay warehouse is located at the bottom of the building, with the small parts warehouse above it. Such a construction is still extremely rare in Europe. This is due to the enormous ground load from the small parts warehouse, which amounts to 5 tons per square meter; theoretically, the ground could support 77 jumbo jets. The new building is being constructed in the Littau district of Lucerne. “The location is ideal for us for several reasons,” explains Christian Kempter-Imbach. Due to its central location with excellent transport connections and proximity to several manufacturing companies within a 20-kilometer radius. “This allows us to provide optimal and ecological production logistics.”
Heating and Cooling with Groundwater
As at other locations, Imbach is consistently focusing on “Green Logistics” in Littauerboden. Thus, they rely on the power of the sun and energy from the earth: the new building will be heated and cooled 100 percent with groundwater. Heat pumps will provide heating, while a free cooling system will handle cooling. The COVID-19 crisis has left significant marks on the economy. Nevertheless, Imbach Logistik AG is investing during this challenging time – the total cost of the new building is around 60 million Swiss francs. This is a clear statement. “We believe in the future and we are investing in it,” says Christian Kempter-Imbach. The pandemic has once again shown how important functioning logistics and transport systems are. The new building in Littauerboden will contribute its part in the future.
