Hapag-Lloyd Improves Half-Year Results Despite Coronavirus Crisis
17. August 2020Podcast: Something with Logistics Episode 49: Flexibility in Automation
17. August 2020Greiwing logistics for you is building a new logistics center in Duisburg’s Logport in collaboration with Goldbeck. There has been a successful partnership between Greiwing and Goldbeck for about five years. The investment amounts to approximately 13 million euros and features 12,300 additional pallet spaces and 15 high silos.
(Duisburg/Greven/Münster) Greiwing logistics for you GmbH is once again expanding its location at Logport in Duisburg. The logistics service provider is once again relying on the expertise of the Münster branch of GOLDBECK Nord GmbH as the general contractor. The companies have already completed five construction projects together. The current project involves the construction of a 5,000 square meter logistics center on an area of 11,800 square meters at Hamburger Straße, which will include 12,300 additional pallet spaces in movable racks and 15 high silos for the storage and filling of flowable goods. With this, Greiwing will have more than 80,000 pallet spaces and 27 silos at the location in the future. The new building will cost around 13 million euros and is scheduled for completion in May 2021. The groundbreaking took place last Friday.
Expansion of Activities at the Duisburg Location
“The location in Duisburg has taken a consistently positive development. With the new expansion, we are now creating the conditions to continue on this path,” says Jürgen Greiwing, Managing Partner of Greiwing logistics for you GmbH. Just in 2019, the company invested six million euros in a logistics center for food products at Logport and expanded its storage capacity by 8,000 pallet spaces. The logistical infrastructure has also been continuously expanded. Currently, the Duisburg location has 67,700 pallet spaces, a 40-ton portal crane, a container tipping station, an interior/exterior silo cleaning facility, and its own truck workshop.
As in the past, the GOLDBECK branch in Münster is also responsible for the current site expansion. “We have been a satisfied regular customer of the construction company for over five years, and this new building is part of a series of successful joint projects. We receive all planning and construction-related services from a single source – this has been a decisive factor for us since the beginning of our collaboration,” says Greiwing.
Trusting Collaboration
Christian Terwey, GOLDBECK Münster branch, is pleased about the long-standing trust from Greiwing: “It is particularly nice for us when one of our clients becomes a ‘repeat offender’ and commissions us again. This is a great compliment for us and confirms our work. At the same time, the recurring collaboration, which also takes place regionally and nationwide with Greiwing, promotes mutual understanding and trust, which is particularly important to us.”
Key considerations for the GOLDBECK branch in Münster in the construction project are agility, flexibility, and a focus on the client’s wishes. After all, in the inherently fast-paced logistics industry, storage space must be created quickly when needed. This is exactly the case with Greiwing now. “Visible individualization and invisible standardization work particularly well when we are involved in the planning from the very beginning, as was the case with this construction project again,” says Terwey.
Groundbreaking Ceremony Held
The official groundbreaking for this expansion phase took place on Friday. According to the plans, the work is expected to be completed by May of next year. Andreas Wermelt, project manager of the GOLDBECK branch in Münster, explains: “The short construction time is due to our system construction method and high level of prefabrication. In our own factories, we produce modular concrete precast parts. On the construction site, these elements are then simply assembled according to the Lego principle.” On 11,800 square meters, the construction company plans a spacious logistics hall: it will provide space for 12,300 pallet spaces in movable racks, 1,000 square meters of picking area, a silage area, and a filling area with three filling silos. In addition, a further high silo storage area will be created outdoors, consisting of twelve silos, each with a capacity of 355 cubic meters.
Diverse Options for Flowable Goods
In the new logistics center, Greiwing will store, process, and transship various flowable goods from the chemical and plastics industry up to water hazard class (WGK) 1 in accordance with HACCP and GMP standards. Loading and unloading will take place via four ramps. Greiwing: “With the expansion, we are reinforcing our growth ambitions. Our Duisburg location will continue to play a central role in the company’s nationwide network.” This is also reflected in the planned expansion of personnel resources: 20 new jobs will be created at the Greiwing location in Logport. In total, the company will then employ 154 people there.
