27. August 2020The logistics service provider LGI has been relying on WinSped from LIS for over six years. Recently, LIS has also started hosting LGI’s data. 80 users can access the now cloud-based Transport Management System (TMS) via a web client, regardless of time and location.
(Greven) The LGI Logistics Group International GmbH (LGI) has been using the cloud services of LIS Logistische Informationssysteme AG (LIS) since the beginning of August. After years of successful transport management with WinSped, the logistics service provider has now entrusted the administration of the software to the IT experts from Greven. The Transport Management System (TMS) has been migrated from Oracle to SQL Server, which are hosted in LIS’s own data center in Greven, North Rhine-Westphalia. Through a web client, the logistics staff can access WinSped from any computer via the internet to enter or edit data. With 80 users, LGI is currently one of the largest LIS customers utilizing the data center.
LIS Cloud Offers Flexibility
“With the LIS Cloud, we offer our customers an added level of flexibility and service,” says Rolf Hansmann, board member of LIS Logistische Informationssysteme AG. Instead of installing it on the user’s hardware, the TMS provider provides the entire WinSped software environment on its own servers in this case. The so-called Application Service Providing (ASP) allows access to the programs anytime and anywhere via a browser. All administrative tasks such as performance monitoring, updates, data backup, and maintenance are handled centrally by LIS technicians. “This eliminates high maintenance costs for the hardware, and customers do not have to worry about ensuring that the system works,” adds Hansmann. LGI has been a customer of LIS for over six years. The logistics service provider handles transportation in the automotive sector via WinSped. The added flexibility prompted the company to host the system directly with the TMS provider. To minimize disruption to transport operations, LIS carried out the migration of the program to the Greven data center overnight from Saturday to Sunday. By the next day, 80 employees could access WinSped via the internet with a password and use the software as if it were still installed on their workstations. Integration of additional personnel or business areas is possible at any time.
Data Center for Up to 6,000 Users
LIS has over 15 years of experience in providing cloud solutions. “It was a good decision to also offer WinSped in a cloud-based format and to invest in a larger, modern, and fail-safe data center,” says Hansmann. Modern logistics requires IT structures that operate entirely or partially over the internet. “The high demand for ASP is therefore not surprising, and we are glad that we still have available capacity,” says Hansmann. The data center is designed for 5,000 to 6,000 users.
