28. August 2020The Austrian Post increases its stake in the Turkish parcel service provider Aras Kargo from 25 to 80 percent. With this step, the Austrian Post aims to strengthen and expand its position in Turkey. Aras has grown by an average of 15 percent over the last three years.
(Vienna/Istanbul) Since 2013, the Austrian Post has held a 25 percent stake in the Turkish parcel service provider Aras Kargo a.s. At that time, there was already a fundamental intention and agreement between the founding and owning Aras family and the Austrian Post to increase the stake. On August 25, the closing for the increase to 80 percent was completed. The remaining 20 percent remains with Baran Aras, who also holds a seat on the board of Aras Kargo.
“I am glad that the increase in our stake in Aras Kargo, which was agreed upon many years ago, has finally taken place. Turkey is a very attractive, dynamic, and rapidly growing market that we still believe in and will continue to invest in the future. Increasing our stake in Aras Kargo is a consistent implementation of our strategy to grow in defined markets,” said DI Dr. Georg Pölzl, CEO of the Austrian Post.
Expanding Business in Turkey
In the future, the Austrian Post plans to further expand the business of Aras Kargo. The company is on a good path with an average growth of 15 percent per year over the last three years. The path taken by the company will continue with the clear goal of further strengthening Aras Kargo’s position in a very dynamic market and investing in the customer-oriented solutions of the company.
“We plan annual investment amounts in the three-digit millions in Turkish Lira. Thanks to the efforts of the management, the employees, and of course the Aras family, Aras Kargo has been established as one of the leading parcel service providers in Turkey. Thanks also go to the Turkish institutions, especially the Investment Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, which acted as mediators in the conflict of the shareholders and ensured that Aras Kargo could continue to develop throughout the dispute,” adds DI Peter Umundum, Board Member for Parcel & Logistics at the Austrian Post.
“After a long time with some conflicts, we have now reached an agreement with our Austrian partner. We are confident that these new shareholding arrangements will bring benefits to all our stakeholders and also to our country. My late father, Celal Aras, founded Aras Kargo 41 years ago, and since then we have always wanted to stay one step ahead of our competitors. And we succeed thanks to the daily efforts of our more than 14,000 employees. Today, Aras Kargo has one of the densest distribution networks in Turkey. We are confident that with this new constellation, we can further expand our market position,” says Baran Aras.
