1. September 2020The express service provider trans-o-flex is examining a StreetScooter with a payload of 900 kilograms in its daily delivery operations at the Hamm location, aiming to explore application niches and gain experience with electric mobility. It is also about making a further contribution to environmental friendliness.
(Weinheim) In a two-year endurance test at the Hamm location, the express service trans-o-flex is now testing a StreetScooter Work L for its everyday suitability. “We know that electric vehicles today do not yet meet our requirements, especially regarding the temperature control of goods, and we are aware of the limitations regarding range and payload,” says Wolfgang P. Albeck, the chairman of the trans-o-flex management. “But it is about gaining early experience with electric mobility in the tough delivery everyday life. This way, we may also discover niches where electric vehicles can already be used economically and ecologically.”
Testing reliability and range
How reliable do the vehicles operate in winter? How much does the load affect driving behavior and range? How well does the supplied charging station work? How much do short interim charges upon return to the depot extend the daily range? trans-o-flex aims to systematically answer these and other questions in the endurance test. For this purpose, the StreetScooter will initially be used for express deliveries in the vicinity of the location. Depending on the experience, further application scenarios are to be added later. “We want to leave no opportunity unexploited to organize our work in a more environmentally friendly way,” says Albeck.
The model Work L from StreetScooter being tested has a box body but does not feature active temperature control of the cargo area. Therefore, it will not be used for ambient or thermo shipments. The box body has a loading volume of 7.7 cubic meters and can accommodate four Euro pallets. The vehicle is allowed to carry a payload of 900 kilograms.
