2. September 2020As part of the realignment of A.P. Möller – Maersk, a new structure is also being implemented at the shipping company Hamburg Süd. Operational teams from both brands will be merged to leverage synergies and further enhance customer proximity.
(Hamburg) To further enhance its customer proximity, Hamburg Süd is optimizing its organizational structure by the end of the third quarter of 2020.
On one hand, the organizational and geographical structures of the areas will be more closely aligned with those of the parent brand Maersk, and on the other hand, a Regional Ocean Management will be established in each region of the company, which will take on certain tasks for all brands in the Maersk group together. In addition, an Extended Management Team has been established at the Hamburg Süd brand headquarters in Hamburg, consisting of the CEO, CFO, and the globally responsible leaders for Marketing, Key Account Management, Customer Experience, IT, and Human Resources. It aims to ensure a holistic approach to the sustainable development of the brand with a differentiated service and service model.
Deepening Customer Proximity
“Hamburg Süd is known for its great customer proximity as well as for its long-term and sustainable customer relationships. Our customers also appreciate that our experts are personally accessible on-site,” says Dr. Arnt Vespermann, CEO of Hamburg Süd. “We want to further expand these advantages for our customers to differentiate ourselves even more. Our customers expect this very personal and local support, and they will receive even more of it in the future.”
Vincent Clerc, CEO of the Ocean & Logistics division at A.P. Moller – Maersk, adds: “Hamburg Süd is a strong brand that perfectly complements Maersk’s offerings with its unique customer promise. By bringing the product teams closer together, we improve coordination among each other and achieve a better brand positioning according to our customers’ needs. This enables us to serve all our customers with an optimal product and service offering for them.”
More Flexible for Customer Needs
The Extended Management Team will therefore ensure that Hamburg Süd can respond even more flexibly to changing customer needs and market trends. Its composition will allow for faster development of new products and innovative logistics solutions. It will also drive the sustainable, high-quality development of the Hamburg Süd brand.
Looking at the regions, the local management teams of Hamburg Süd in more than 100 countries already have significant decision-making power to quickly address the individual needs of their customers on-site.
A cross-brand Regional Ocean Management Team will further strengthen these market advantages, while the regional organizational structure of Hamburg Süd will be merged with that of Maersk. This will accelerate coordination processes across all Maersk brands and enhance the service offerings of Hamburg Süd. Furthermore, the new structure ensures a more powerful sales organization and shorter response times at this local level to react to market trends. The new structures will have no impact on the customer contacts at Hamburg Süd. Everything will remain as before to ensure continuity.
As part of the repositioning of the Maersk Group, the brands Safmarine and Damco will be fully integrated and no longer marketed by the end of 2020. Hamburg Süd and Aliança will remain independent brands, but with “differentiated service models”.
