(Duisburg) The Chinese company Sinotrans, the logistics division of the China Merchants Group (CMG), is establishing its first own rail connection between Shenzhen and Duisburg. With the new connection between the Greater Bay Area Pearl River Delta, the partners have developed a new offering for freight transport between China and Europe. The partnership was agreed upon between duisport CEO Erich Staake and Sinotrans Chairman Guanpeng Li. Up to 60 trains are now operating weekly between Duisburg and various destinations in China.
Secure Supply Chains Between Europe and China
“Shenzhen with the Greater Bay Area (Pearl River Delta) is one of the most economically successful regions in China. Duisburg is a transport hub for several modes of transport in Europe. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese special zone Shenzhen, we have created the rail connection ‘Bay Area’ between Shenzhen and Europe with our cooperation partners. The opening of the ‘Bay Area’ is of vital importance for ensuring seamless supply chains between China and Europe as well as for even closer economic ties,” explains Sinotrans Chairman Guangpeng Li.
duisport: Growth with New Destinations in China
“The new rail connection between Duisburg and Shenzhen is another building block of our constant growth strategy. After we connected Jinan in Northeast China and Changsha in Central China to our network in the spring, we now want to serve the Pearl River Delta even more strongly. With this strategic partnership, we strengthen our network,” emphasizes duisport CEO Erich Staake. Personally seen off by Guanpeng Li on its maiden voyage, the new rail connection marks classic route points along the New Silk Road: From China through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland to Duisburg. Sinotrans is a leading global provider of integrated logistics services with an annual revenue of 9.49 billion euros, belonging to the China Merchants Group. Already in 2016, the duisport group agreed on a strategic and project-related cooperation with China Merchant.
