10. September 2020Körber Supply Chain GmbH has been commissioned by the Danish furniture retail group Jysk to equip a new distribution center in Ecser, Hungary (near Budapest). From there, the aim is to better connect the Southeast European region and expand capacities.
(Hamburg) Körber, a leading provider of supply chain software and automation technologies, has been commissioned by the international retail group JYSK to equip a new, highly automated distribution center in Ecser (Hungary). The new location primarily supports the Scandinavian retailer of mattresses, furniture, and home accessories in expanding its logistical capacities in the Southeast European region. At the new, highly automated site, JYSK relies on Körber’s end-to-end solutions and expertise.
More articles, distribution channels, and growing customer demands contribute to increasing challenges in logistics. The European market is particularly affected, with systems already pushed to their limits, which are still required to demonstrate a high degree of adaptability due to the growing online trade.
Meeting Fulfillment Promises
“Today’s supply chain requires harmony,” says Dirk Hejnal, Chief Executive Officer at Körber Supply Chain. “Technologies, equipment, and employees must interact to meet the fulfillment promise in light of growing demands for convenience, choice, and flexibility. Körber is capable of providing powerful software and automation solutions from a single source and integrating them holistically into the IT ecosystem.”
At the new distribution center in Ecser near Budapest, Hungary, JYSK is implementing a fully automated overall system. This includes solutions from the supply chain software, automation, material transport systems, and SAP software consulting and implementation. Key components include two twelve-aisle high-bay warehouses, a two-kilometer-long electric floor conveyor with 36 RGVs (Rail Guided Vehicles), and 1.8 km of pallet conveyor technology. Additionally, there are stretchers, lifters, storage and retrieval devices, as well as a pallet inspection station.
Goods Planning Controlled by SAP
The goods planning and control are centrally managed by the Warehouse Management System SAP EWM and the material flow system SAP EWM MFS. This is complemented by functionalities for transport and yard processing. The result is seamlessly integrated functionalities for omnichannel processing, starting from pallet storage (capacities for over 200,000 pallets), increased inbound and outbound speeds (400 Euro pallets per hour), to transport savings of around 4.5 million kilometers each year.
“Companies need a partner who understands their specific needs and provides a tailored solution,” emphasizes Thomas Gries, Chief Executive Officer SAP at Körber Supply Chain. “This sets us apart. Our end-to-end solutions are designed to make even highly complex processes manageable. A global team of experts supports the implementation, commissioning, and beyond – no matter how complex the project may be.”
Distribution Center Covers 143,000 m2
JYSK is also extremely satisfied with the solution. “The experienced, creative team at Körber has developed an elegant yet robust solution for us. We are convinced that it meets all our requirements. JYSK is continuously growing, which makes it even more important to implement a scalable material transport system that can increase storage capacity by at least 100 percent,” explains Troels Fynbo Larsen, Contract Manager Logistics at JYSK.
JYSK is investing 200 million euros in the new distribution center, which spans 143,000 square meters. The expected commissioning is set for 2022. From there, the supply of stores and end customers in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, and Serbia will take place. Currently, JYSK has over 2,900 stores and 24,000 employees in 51 countries.
