11. September 2020MAN realigns and announces the reduction of up to 9,500 jobs
11. September 2020After two years of project duration, Ascendum Baumaschinen Österreich GmbH delivers the world’s largest material handler. The Sennebogen 895 E-Series Hybrid model is now located at the operational site of Danubia Speicherei Ges.m.H. in Ennshafen. A small gathering celebrated the inauguration.
(Linz/Enns) After two years of project duration, the world’s largest hydraulic material handler, the Sennebogen 895 E-Series Hybrid, has found its new home at the operational site of Danubia Speicherei Ges.m.b.H in Ennshafen. Following the successful delivery by Ascendum Baumaschinen Österreich GmbH, a small gathering was invited for the ceremonial blessing. Even the Governor Mag. Thomas Stelzer made it a point to personally attend the inauguration of this groundbreaking machine technology.
In spring 2019, the currently largest material handler from Sennebogen, a 895 E Hybrid with a total weight of around 410 tons, was presented for the first time at the world’s largest construction machinery fair “bauma” in Munich. At that time, none of the participants likely suspected that a material handler of this size would be one of the first of its kind to be put into operation in Austria.
Annual Handling Volume of 950,000 Tons at Danubia
For the Danubia Speicherei in Ennshafen, this “big green one” seemed to be the ideal machine, as the storage facility must handle an annual volume of 950,000 tons. With these quantities, efficiency is a crucial factor in machine configuration. The 895 E Hybrid meets this requirement without any problems. Despite its impressive size, this machine operates quickly, economically, and emission-free. In particular, the “Green Hybrid” system contributes to efficiency and cost reduction, allowing for energy savings of up to 55%.
How is it possible for a 410-ton machine, which weighs about as much as three adult blue whales, to operate so efficiently? The boom of the harbor giant is equipped with two hydraulic systems that compensate for the weight of the 54-ton steel structure. The hybrid storage modules installed on both sides next to the boom pivot point on the upper carriage complete Sennebogen’s Green Hybrid energy recovery system. Energy storage works similarly to a compressed spring. Here, gas is compressed in separate pressure gas cylinders and thus stores energy that is available for the next lift. The subsequent lifting movement is comparable to releasing the spring. During this process, the previously generated energy is released.
Excavator Not Only Large but Also Energy Efficient
“With the 895 E, we have not only successfully established the largest material handler on the market, but we are also setting new standards in terms of energy efficiency, performance, and customer-specific solutions with this innovation. We are particularly pleased that this machine is now being used so close to the Danube,” says Erich Sennebogen, Managing Director of the globally operating machine manufacturer Sennebogen, headquartered in Straubing, Bavaria.
The XXL-format material handler was individually adapted with its portal undercarriage to the track width at the Danubia Speicherei. Everything about this machine is larger and boasts record-breaking specifications. The transport of the individual parts, totaling 18 truckloads, including 7 heavy transports, was a logistical masterpiece. During the 14-day assembly on-site, the teams from Ascendum, Sennebogen, and Danubia Speicherei worked closely and excellently together.
Large Project Works Only Through Teamwork
“Since 2015, we have been distributing Sennebogen products in Austria. Successfully managing a large project like the 895 E Hybrid is only possible with great effort and excellent teamwork from all parties involved. Trust in our trading partner Sennebogen has steadily grown over the years and is a guarantee for continued successful collaboration in the future. Here and today, I am pleased with Danubia Speicherei that the 895 E Hybrid has commenced operations as planned and will strengthen their economic location in the future,” explains Dr. Thomas Schmitz, Managing Director of Ascendum Baumaschinen Österreich GmbH.
Georg Dobesberger, Managing Director of Danubia Speicherei Ges.m.b.H., justifies the well-thought-out investment: “We expect a huge increase in efficiency, as we can handle significantly more in a shorter time. The Ennshafen has developed well in recent years. Moreover, there will be more challenges in the transport sector in the future. The roads are full, and the goods to be transported are increasing, so there must be forward-looking solutions!”
State of Upper Austria is Proud
“The largest material handler in the world at the Enns harbor site symbolically represents the power of the Upper Austria location. We need this power now to secure employment and revive the economy. This is how we will make our country strong again. I thank Ascendum for the assembly of this harbor giant and congratulate the handling company Danubia Speicherei, which is setting new standards in material handling with this prestige project,” emphasizes Governor Mag. Thomas Stelzer.
The “big green one” is intended to support the storage facility in Ennshafen in the long term. To pave the way for a successful future, Father Markus from the parish of Enns-St. Marien blessed the gigantic material handler today in a small circle.
