Sep 30, 2020 at 8:01 PMDHL is increasing parcel prices for business customers due to significantly rising transport costs, higher personnel costs, and further increased investments. The price increase particularly affects heavy parcel shipments over 20 kilograms.
(Bonn) DHL Parcel will increase prices for its business customers starting January 1, 2021. Significantly rising transport costs, higher personnel costs, and further increased investments make the price adjustment necessary. Deutsche Post DHL intends to increase investments in the expansion of postal and parcel infrastructure and further improve parcel services for end customers from currently around 150 million to over 300 million euros in 2021. Examples include the ongoing construction of the new mega parcel center in Ludwigsfelde near Berlin, the expansion of the parcel center in Aschheim near Munich, the installation of sorting technology for goods-bearing shipments in mail centers, and the continuous expansion of the parcel station network from currently about 5,600 to initially around 7,000 machines in the first half of 2021. In addition, Deutsche Post DHL Group is investing in digital services, such as Mobile Returns, which allows recipients to conveniently receive a return label via QR code on their smartphone, or DHL Live Tracking, which enables real-time tracking of parcel deliveries.
Ensuring High Service Quality
“Our goal is to ensure high service quality even in these challenging times during the Corona pandemic and to make life a little easier for our customers. As shipment volumes continue to increase, we are significantly expanding our capacities and also improving our recipient services. To finance these investments, an increase in business customer prices is necessary,” says Ole Nordhoff, Sales and Marketing Director at Post & Paket Deutschland of Deutsche Post DHL Group.
Price Increase Particularly for Shipments Over 20 kg
The price increase particularly affects heavy parcel shipments over 20 kilograms, which are associated with significantly higher effort in sorting and delivery, and whose handling is additionally complicated by the Corona protection measures. External effects are also taken into account in the price increases. The existing toll surcharge will be supplemented by a CO2 surcharge on each parcel shipment. This results from the climate package decided by the federal government in November 2019. The surcharge will come into effect on January 1, 2021, for all business customers.
The price adjustments from January 1, 2021, apply to both business customers with list prices and those with individually agreed conditions. The increases relate to DHL parcel shipping and do not affect the national and international express business.
