Austrian Post Prioritizes Safety When Turning

1. October 2020The logistics service provider trans-o-flex, specialized in pharmaceutical transports with its specialized network trans-o-flex ThermoMed, attributes demands for global storage and transport temperatures of minus 80 degrees to a lack of expertise. The fine distribution of vaccines with active temperature control at 2 to 8 degrees is suitable to exclude a reduction in the effectiveness of Corona vaccines due to transport.
(Weinheim) The pharmaceutical logistics specialist trans-o-flex rejects reports that logistics companies would need to establish networks worldwide for the transport of Corona vaccines, where the products can be stored and transported at minus 80 degrees Celsius. “Anyone who knows a little about the pharmaceutical industry knows that the currently hastily communicated temperatures between minus 20 and minus 80 degrees Celsius are precautionary measures that companies must take until they have valid data on the shelf life of their products even at higher temperatures,” says trans-o-flex CEO Wolfgang P. Albeck. “In fact, several companies have already confirmed that Corona vaccine candidates retain their effectiveness even when treated like normal temperature-sensitive products, that is, stored and transported at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius.”
Concrete Examples
As examples, Albeck mentioned the companies Biontech and Curevac. Mainz-based Biontech, which is developing a Corona vaccine in collaboration with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, announced at a press conference that storage of their vaccine at 2 to 8 degrees is possible for five days. And soon, according to Albeck, the company wants to provide further secured results. It is to be expected that the company will certify its product with an even significantly longer stability at refrigerator temperature. The Tübingen-based company Curevac, which is researching another vaccine candidate against the coronavirus, has even confirmed that its vaccine shows “multi-month stability” at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius.
Prepared for Vaccine Distribution
From all this, trans-o-flex concludes that Corona vaccines are most likely to be classified as temperature-sensitive products that can be safely transported at so-called refrigerator temperature. “We are therefore optimally prepared with our actively temperature-controlled networks for a comprehensive distribution of Corona vaccines,” says Wolfgang P. Albeck. “The subsidiary trans-o-flex ThermoMed, specialized in distribution in the temperature range between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, can safely and transparently document the delivery of Corona vaccines, just as it has done in previous years with flu vaccines, to all doctors, pharmacies, and hospitals as well as the pharmaceutical wholesale trade in Germany and Austria.”
