10. October 2020Gomultimodal Launches Initiative to Strengthen Rail Freight Transport
13. October 2020SW Customs Consulting GmbH, as an independent company of DB Schenker, has successfully implemented an automated customs solution with an integrated billing system from the software service provider DAKOSY. The large project included the integration of SW Customs, 54 DB Schenker locations, EVAG Emder Verkehrs und Automotive Gesellschaft mbH, and other major clients.
(Hamburg) Just a little over a year after the kick-off meeting, the complex transition of the customs and billing systems from SW Customs in Furth am Wald, including the major clients, to the Hamburg software house has been completed on schedule. SW Customs Managing Director Harald Rieder feels well-equipped with the new software system to efficiently process the expected increased volumes from Brexit.
“It was a challenge not only to implement a solution for SW Customs but also to connect 54 locations of Schenker Deutschland AG that use SW Customs as an external service provider,” explains DAKOSY project manager Evelyn Eggers. The coordination of the partly complex customer processes and the necessary individual adjustments to DAKOSY’s solution have particularly shaped the project.
Nearly Complete Automation Possible
For EVAG, which also belongs to DB Schenker and is among the major clients of SW Customs, DAKOSY realized nearly complete automation of the export customs processes. The export clearances, including exemptions for about 500,000 vehicles annually at the Emden port, are carried out via a black box interface. Furthermore, interfaces were implemented for a household appliance manufacturer, an international online retailer, and a printer manufacturer to process customs and shipping data directly in the ZODIAK GE software.
“One of our most important requirements was to integrate our highly automated billing into the solution,” emphasizes Rieder. DAKOSY used an integrated invoicing module and developed it according to the needs of SW Customs.
Individual Customization Possible with DAKOSY
The decision in favor of DAKOSY was made partly because of their specialization in logistics processes, the modern Java-based platform, and the possibility of individual customization. Particularly in high-volume import traffic and in the area of customs warehousing, SW Customs was able to achieve a higher degree of automation through DAKOSY applications. Rieder cites noticeable advantages such as improved quality, faster processes, better evaluation options, and the diverse interfaces.
