16. October 2020Schaeffler Bio-Hybrid GmbH Reorganized Through Management Buy-Out
16. October 2020Despite Corona, Gebrüder Weiss GmbH reports increasing shipment numbers. At the same time, a new logistics terminal near Zagreb has successfully launched. The home delivery market is one of the most important growth drivers in Croatia
(Lauterach / Zagreb) – For 20 years, Gebrüder Weiss has been represented in Croatia with its own location and is continuously expanding its market position in the region. The logistics company was able to significantly increase its shipment volume in domestic transport in the first half of 2020. Despite the effects of the Corona pandemic, an increase of around 15 percent compared to the previous year was achieved. This was also supported by the new terminal near Zagreb, which was completed and put into operation this year.
New Logistics Terminal for Around 18 Million EUR
“With the new logistics terminal and our commitment to the highest quality and safety standards, we want to continue our 20-year success story in Croatia,” says Thomas Schauer, Regional Manager of Gebrüder Weiss Southeast. Gebrüder Weiss has invested around 18 million euros in the expansion of the location near the Croatian capital Zagreb. The international logistics company is thus responding to the increased customer demands and the growing order volume at the location. The new hub features state-of-the-art technical equipment and a logistics area of 18,000 square meters. This also includes special hazardous goods warehouses for particularly sensitive products.
Growth Driver Home Delivery
“The foundation of our success and thus an important pillar of our strategy is to provide customers with added value for their logistics chains, for example through digital offerings such as the new customer portal myGW or the expansion of our home delivery services,” says Barbara Bujačić, Country Manager of Gebrüder Weiss Croatia. The home delivery market is one of the most important growth drivers in Croatia. Since 2012, Gebrüder Weiss has significantly increased shipment numbers in this business area annually. In the first eight months of this year, growth is already over 30 percent compared to the previous year. As a result of the Corona pandemic, Gebrüder Weiss also offers a “Contactless Service,” which is well received in the market.
Domestic Transport, Sea and Air Freight Develop Well
Not only do the Europe-wide transports in domestic traffic contribute to business success, but the air & sea sector at the location is also developing increasingly positively. For example, sea freight customers benefit from access to the Adriatic through weekly LCL consolidated container services that connect Croatia and its neighboring countries with the growth markets in Asia in about 35 days.
Development into a Full-Service Logistics Provider Since 2000
Gebrüder Weiss Croatia started in 2000 as a small forwarding company on an area of 1,000 square meters with a team of 15 employees. In recent years, the company has developed into a full-service logistics provider with renowned customers from sectors such as high-tech, automotive, fashion, consumer goods, and the chemical industry. Meanwhile, 175 employees in Croatia manage a logistics area of 20,400 square meters across three locations. In mid-October, Gebrüder Weiss will celebrate its 20th anniversary in Croatia with its customers and employees. Due to Corona, the celebration will take place as a digital event series.
