26. October 2020DACHSER SE welcomes high-profile visitors in Unterschleißheim: The State Minister for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy and Deputy Prime Minister of the Free State of Bavaria, Hubert Aiwanger, gained insight into the measures that ensure logistical supply continues to function smoothly during the Corona pandemic.
(Unterschleißheim) – How is DACHSER economically navigating through the crisis? Is there a shortage of drivers? What alternative to diesel trucks does DACHSER see? How is Corona changing logistics? The State Minister inquired during the company presentation by Alexander Tonn, Managing Director European Logistics Germany at DACHSER, and Markus Wenzl, General Manager European Logistics, Munich Group, leading to a lively exchange.
DACHSER “vital” for the Munich area
Aiwanger was also impressed by the figures: 30 to 40 percent of goods in the Munich area are delivered by DACHSER. Therefore, it is vital for the metropolis that DACHSER remains operational at all times and fulfills its system-relevant role. This applies not only to food supply. Without packaging, for example, no yogurt can leave the dairy. The medical protective equipment, procured via ASL charter from China, ultimately arrives at the Munich Klinikum Rechts der Isar in a DACHSER EL local transport vehicle. Aiwanger also expressed the gratitude of his ministry specifically to the drivers who have to perform their jobs under difficult conditions. While DACHSER officials and the State Minister agreed that hydrogen fuel cells represent the future of emission-free long-distance transport, some diplomacy was also required regarding the potential for renewed border closures and the planned testing requirements for cross-border commuters from Austria and the Czech Republic.
With discipline through the Corona pandemic
During the concluding tour of the transshipment hall, there was a hectic activity: The autumn business ensures high utilization. However, it was evident everywhere: distance, hygiene, mouth-nose protection, air filters in the open-plan office. After a good hour, State Minister Aiwanger, his staff, and personal protection moved on to the next appointment. They took with them the knowledge that a system-relevant operation is keeping the city of Munich, a large part of southeastern Bavaria, and the Salzburg region running. And that everything is being done with great discipline to ensure that this remains the case in the future, despite the Corona pandemic.www.dachser.com Image: Bavarian State Minister Hubert Aiwanger visiting DACHSER in Unterschleißheim. – © Dachser SE
