29. October 2020The European Cargo Alliance of International Forwarders AG, or ELVIS, now offers a comprehensive system solution for B2C delivery of bulky partial shipments in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The delivery to private customers is handled depending on the weight and size of the respective cargo either through the ELVIS building materials network or through the partial load network.
(Alzenau) – With its new offering, ELVIS responds to the ongoing growth in the e-commerce market, which has now also captured the segment of furniture, large household appliances, and building materials.
E-Commerce Offers Opportunities
“The high growth rates in e-commerce also provide opportunities for logistics. Opportunities that we do not want to leave untapped,” says Jochen Eschborn, CEO of the European Cargo Alliance of International Forwarders AG. Therefore, the alliance now offers a new system solution specifically for the delivery of bulky and heavy partial loads to private end customers. “We have closely integrated our building materials network and our partial load system for this purpose,” explains Eschborn.
“In this way, we can guarantee reliable and comprehensive pickup and delivery, including notification to the customer, for heavy and bulky goods throughout the entire DACH region,” says Eschborn, who sees great potential for the new service in light of the current developments in e-commerce. According to the Federal Statistical Office, sales in online retail of furniture, household appliances, and building materials increased by 14.6 percent in June of this year compared to the same month last year, adjusted for prices.
ELVIS Service Available Now
The reason that large and/or heavy items played a subordinate role in online business in the past was primarily due to the complex logistics. Since courier, express, and parcel services cannot accommodate these, customer orders usually had to be assigned individually to freight forwarders. There was no uniform solution in this form until now. “An increasing number of customers are demanding convenient delivery solutions for items such as awnings, cisterns, building materials, garden fences, and greenhouses,” says Eschborn. The days when customers drove to the hardware store on Saturdays with their neighbor’s trailer are over. Providers of such goods must quickly adapt to this development. Otherwise, they will be left behind by the competition. The new ELVIS service enables the servicing of this rapidly growing customer group and is now available in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
