10. November 2020NORDFROST GmbH & Co. KG celebrates a milestone in the company’s history with the opening of the new deep-freeze high-bay warehouse in Herne. The logistics service provider, headquartered in Schortens, Friesland, and with 40 logistics centers nationwide, now offers its customers from the food industry and retail an additional 42,000 pallet spaces in the Ruhr area.
(Schortens) – Today, the automatic high-bay warehouse of NORDFROST in Herne is being commissioned. The very demanding testing phase, which ends today, was led by a dedicated project team around IT manager Christian Lüerßen, who worked on-site with the Austrian plant manufacturer TGW, supported by branch manager Thorsten Schäckel and his team of 40.
Automatic order picking starting in 2021
The conventional storage area of the logistics center started operations on May 5, 2020. The commissioning of the automatic order picking is planned for early 2021. Herne will also take on the role of a central transport logistics hub in North Rhine-Westphalia, thus becoming a hub for the nationwide and Europe-wide consolidated freight network of NORDFROST.
Second automatic deep-freeze high-bay warehouse under construction
Dr. Falk Bartels and Britta Bartels, managing partners: “The opening of our first fully automated high-bay warehouse is a milestone in the history of NORDFROST! We are very pleased that this is happening today, on the birthday of our father and company founder Horst Bartels (06.11.1944 – 01.02.2020), who led the family business until his last days and who was very fond of the future-oriented location in Herne alongside our port logistics!” The second automatic deep-freeze high-bay warehouse of NORDFROST is currently being built at the container port of Wilhelmshaven – with a capacity of 40,000 pallet spaces, which will be completed by mid-next year.
