11. November 2020Test for Digital and Automatic Coupling in Rail Freight Transport
12. November 2020Dyckerhoff GmbH has not utilized the rail connection at its plant in Wiesbaden Amöneburg for 15 years, but this transport route has now been reactivated. Yesterday, the track was used for the first time again. The arrival of the RheinCargo locomotive DE 502 ‘Prosper Haniel’ is intended to mark the beginning of an expanded collaboration between Dyckerhoff and RheinCargo GmbH & Co. KG.
(Wiesbaden) – Dyckerhoff is an international manufacturer of cement and ready-mixed concrete, belonging to the Italian Buzzi Unicem group. ‘The reactivated rail connection makes our location more independent from existing transport routes. For example, the very low level of the Rhine two years ago showed us how important it is to be able to rely on alternative transport routes. This is not only a contribution that secures our production in the long term. The rail connection also gives us the opportunity to utilize an environmentally friendly transport route in the future,’ explains Stefan Woywadt, head of the Amöneburg plant, justifying the step.

RheinCargo is intensively supporting Dyckerhoff in implementing the project. ‘The operation of the railway will be complemented by consulting and infrastructure tasks. We are pleased that the long-standing partnership between RheinCargo and Dyckerhoff can be expanded with this new chapter,’ says Peter Jacobs, head of the RheinCargo division ‘Industrial and Factory Railways.’
It is planned that the RC division ‘Industrial and Factory Railways’ will continue to grow. ‘There is a noticeable demand in the market. RheinCargo can contribute the know-how as a service provider for companies that need support in establishing or reactivating rail connections. The entire portfolio – from planning to operation – can be covered by RheinCargo in full or in parts,’ explains Jacobs.
Only Manufacturer of White Cement in Germany
The Amöneburg plant is Dyckerhoff’s main plant and was founded in 1864. Today, gray cements are produced here using cement clinker from the neighboring Göllheim plant. Additionally, the plant produces white cement clinker. Dyckerhoff is the only manufacturer of white cement in Germany. In the coming months, planning and expansion of the facilities in Amöneburg will be advanced so that Dyckerhoff products can increasingly be handled via the freight railway.
