(Hamburg) With this move, the three shareholders of the private railway company Eurogate Intermodal GmbH (EGIM), ERS Railways GmbH, and TX Logistik AG are consistently implementing their strategy for sustainable and environmentally friendly rail production. The container trains powered by green electricity connect the seaports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Rotterdam with important economic centers inland. The Hamburg-based railway company sources “TüStrom Bahn Natur” from the municipal utilities of Tübingen. This clean energy, derived from 100 percent hydropower, is certified as “Tested Green Electricity” by TÜV Nord. Its production does not generate harmful CO2 emissions or radioactive waste. By switching to green electricity, boxXpress.de aims to significantly reduce environmentally harmful emissions.
Despite particular market challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic, boxXpress.de remains on its green course and offers a sustainable, future-oriented intermodal product. The three shareholders are resolutely realizing their ambitious climate plans and are not deterred by the Corona crisis.
State-of-the-Art Vectron Locomotives
To keep energy consumption during transport as low as possible, the company exclusively uses state-of-the-art Vectron locomotives. Additionally, the traction units even generate electricity themselves by partially recovering energy released during braking and converting it into electrical energy. In combination with innovative software and trained train drivers, the energy recovery rate so far this year is approximately 15 percent.
A modern fleet of mainly 4-axle 80ft wagons ensures length capacity optimization. The units are equipped with whisper brakes or disc brakes – minimizing noise pollution and surpassing the current standards of the freight transport industry.
Stefan Marx, Managing Director of boxXpress.de, says: “With this transition, we are offering the market solutions to further minimize the climate impact of transport. The rail freight transport plays a key role in achieving European climate goals. Therefore, we are pleased to continue expanding the environmentally friendly intermodal system of boxXpress.de. Our long-term goal is to offer CO2-neutral services.
