19. November 2020Hellmann Worldwide Logistics is building a state-of-the-art and digitized logistics facility in Bremen, thereby expanding its activities at this location. 40,000 m2 will be developed next to the existing facility. 1,500 m2 of office space and 8,000 m2 of transshipment area are to be completed in the second half of 2021.
(Osnabrück / Bremen) The globally operating full-service provider Hellmann Worldwide Logistics is expanding its location in Bremen and is constructing a state-of-the-art digitized logistics facility on Ludwig-Erhard-Straße. The official start of construction was sealed during the groundbreaking ceremony on the previously undeveloped 40,000 sqm neighboring plot of the current Hellmann location. The new building will feature approximately 1,500 sqm of office space and 8,000 sqm of transshipment area with 100 gates and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2021. This expansion is a response to the ongoing growth trend in the product areas of general cargo and direct load in the Bremen/Ostfriesland region.
Strategic Excellent Transport Links
Since 1989, Hellmann has been represented at the Bremen location with a cross-product sea and land transport as well as contract logistics site in the GVZ – the largest freight transport center in Germany. The strategically excellent transport links, covering the entire spectrum of combined transport with sea, rail, and truck transport, have led to steady volume growth over the past decades, pushing the current hall facility to its capacity limits. At the same time, the new building will create the conditions for modern working and the digitization of the logistics working world: Through the implementation of various innovative technologies – such as a digital order management system on the premises – operational processes are to be optimized based on data. A large part of the warehouse equipment will also be automated in the future, so that the design of the new hall facility already considers the use of Bluetooth-controlled robots and autonomously driving vehicles. A photovoltaic system on the roof of the hall will sustainably and independently produce part of the electricity needs, including supplying the planned charging stations for e-mobility.
New Level of Digital Service Quality
“We are pleased that we can continue to grow at the Bremen location and offer a whole new level of digital service quality in all product areas. With the new building, we are not only setting a benchmark in the Hellmann world for how logistics works in the digital age,” said Sven Eisfeld, Managing Director Germany, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics. “At the Bremen location, we see particularly increased demand for international transports in Europe, but also in global sea traffic. With the new facility, we are creating the prerequisites for this,” Eisfeld added.
