1. December 2020DB Schenker has commenced operations at its location in Neufahrn near Munich after two years of renovation and modernization. The work was carried out while operations continued. Now, a transshipment terminal with 9,600 m² and 3,600 m² of office space is available.
(Frankfurt am Main/Neufahrn) The logistics specialist DB Schenker has significantly grown at its traditional and conveniently located site in Neufahrn. In a planning and organizational masterpiece, all warehouses were demolished and subsequently enlarged and rebuilt with the latest storage technology from January 2018 to October 2020 in three phases while operations continued.
Close Cooperation with Authorities
In excellent cooperation between the Land Transport Office Munich, the corporate headquarters, and the municipality of Neufahrn, the district, and local construction companies, the mammoth project was successfully implemented. A state-of-the-art transshipment terminal with around 9,800 m² of logistics space, 126 loading bridges, and 3,600 m² of new office space has been created.
The demand for the new freight forwarding facility is unrestricted. “Now we can fully take off, expand our increasingly important role in the DB Schenker network as the gateway to the south, to Austria and Italy, and tap into new markets,” comments Managing Director Manfred John on the ambitious plans of the logistics service provider.
Logistics at Full Speed
With the new terminal, the Neufahrn location boasts one of the most modern land transport terminals of Schenker Deutschland AG. In a three-shift operation, between 3,000 and 3,500 shipments with a volume of 1,300 tons are processed daily. The new building was utilized for extensive modernization of storage technology and IT. At the same time, DB Schenker placed the highest value on creating a health-promoting and safe working environment. From daylight-controlled LED lighting to fine dust filter systems and lane temperature control, modern building technology ensures optimal working conditions.
Schenker Deutschland AG, based in Frankfurt am Main, is the leading provider of integrated logistics in the German market with around 17,400 employees at more than 100 locations and a revenue of approximately 4.1 billion euros per year.
