Dec 2, 2020 at 6:30 PMThe federal government plans to promote investments in modern trailer technologies as part of the fleet renewal program for commercial vehicles starting in 2021. Grants will be available for all systems that significantly reduce the CO2 footprint of freight transport. Telematics, tire pressure monitoring systems, and electronic axle control will be subsidized.
(Burtenbach) Positive signals for investments: Fleet operators who invest in their fleet starting in 2021 will receive subsidies from the federal government. Financial grants are now also available for the purchase of trailers and semi-trailers equipped with modern trailer technologies that offer significant efficiency reserves. The subsidized systems are expected to include trailer telematics, tire pressure monitoring systems, and electronic axle control systems. This has been documented by the federal government in the results paper of the 4th Concerted Action on Mobility (KAM). The funding is part of the fleet renewal program for commercial vehicles and is primarily intended to help reduce CO2 emissions in road traffic.
Contribution to climate-friendly transport
“Kögel explicitly welcomes the inclusion of trailers with innovative efficiency technologies in the fleet renewal program for commercial vehicles. We are committed to the climate goals of the European Union and are eager to contribute to climate-friendly transport,” says Josef Warmeling, Managing Director of Sales for Northern and Western Europe, Used Vehicles, Finance Full Service, Telematics Marketing and Communication. “The federal government’s incentive program aligns with our corporate motto ‘Economy meets ecology – because we care.’ For us, the customer and their needs come first. This fundamentally includes the desire to sustainably reduce the CO2 footprint of freight transport while operating economically in the market.”
Trailer innovations offer attractive cost-benefit ratio
Innovations in trailers still hold great potential today to significantly improve transport efficiency and offer a very attractive cost-benefit ratio. The corresponding innovative technologies can already be integrated by customers at Kögel and used economically advantageously. The grants will further support the market ramp-up of innovatively equipped trailers. The federal government will announce the extent to which the respective innovative trailer technologies will be funded and how fleet operators can apply for the funding measures. The funding program will come into effect on January 1, 2021.
Funding program is technology-neutral
The technology-neutral fleet renewal program for commercial vehicles provides for the funding of vehicles with battery-electric and fuel cell drives, as well as modern conventional drives, if they are considered particularly low in CO2. In the latest version, grants are also possible for trailers. The program has a funding volume of 500 million euros.
