(Freiburg i. Br.) The recently extended “lockdown light” by the federal government as a measure to contain the Covid-19 pandemic has not affected the volume of goods at the loading docks. According to the Freiburg online marketplace Cargoclix, provider of the modular time slot management system SLOT, booking numbers in the first three weeks of lockdown in November were nearly at last year’s level in the food and automotive sectors. This was revealed by an internal analysis.
Everything was different during the first lockdown
The situation looked completely different during the first lockdown at the end of March. According to the analysis, manufacturers and retailers of food and beverages booked 21 percent more time slots for loading and unloading trucks in the last week of March than in the last week of February, reacting to so-called panic buying. However, the supply chains of automobile manufacturers were noticeably disrupted by the coronavirus. During the lockdown in the first week of April, nearly 50 percent fewer time slots were booked in this area compared to the last week of February, according to Cargoclix – some companies didn’t reserve any slots at all during this time. To collect the data, Cargoclix evaluated the booking numbers from around 30 companies per segment.
Task Force Deployment Extended
To prepare ramp operators for the consequences of possible further restrictions in the coming months, Cargoclix has extended the deployment of its task force until further notice. They ensure that the modularly adaptable time slot management system can be installed within 24 hours. The setup is free of charge if no complex interfaces need to be programmed. “Those who organize the processing at their ramps well, and thus their processes and personnel deployment, can react spontaneously to both restrictions and peak phases,” emphasizes Prof. Dr. Victor Meier, advisory partner at Cargoclix. The SLOT software currently has around 65,000 users, with a rising trend.
