Dec 3, 2020 at 7:35 PMThe Austrian logistics provider Gebrüder Weiss is establishing a joint venture for package logistics with the Chinese logistics company Global Freight System (GFS). The service will be offered to Asian and European e-commerce companies. The focus of the new establishment is on the increasing activities along the Silk Road.
(Lauterach/Shanghai) Gebrüder Weiss is founding the joint venture “Gebrüder Weiss Express China” with the Chinese logistics provider Global Freight System (GFS), which specializes in package transport between China and Europe. Gebrüder Weiss holds 65 percent of the shares in the joint venture based in Shanghai. “With the growing online trade, package shipments between Asia and Europe are continuously increasing,” says Lothar Thoma, a member of the management board at Gebrüder Weiss. “We are now combining our expertise in Europe and Asia and addressing both Asian and European e-commerce companies with this new offering.”
New Silk Road
With the establishment of the joint venture, Gebrüder Weiss is once again strengthening its activities along the New Silk Road. The company operates branches and offices at 19 key transport hubs in the Greater China region and is also present in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Georgia, and Armenia with its own locations. Gebrüder Weiss services along and on the Silk Road include air and sea freight, rail and multimodal transport, as well as logistical special solutions including warehousing, local distribution – and now also package transport.
