7. December 2020The leading service provider and wholesaler in the organic market in Switzerland, Bio Partner Schweiz AG, Seon/AG, is now relying on innovative robotic logistics to optimize efficiency in the large warehouse. Swisslog AG, which is part of the KUKA Group, designed the facility and doubled the performance.
(Buchs/AG Switzerland) With a full range of over 10,000 products in a warehouse of 12,200 m2 and 25,000 boxes in the automated compact warehouse, Bio Partner supplies business customers in the organic retail sector as well as in the general retail and gastronomy from its location in Seon.
Due to the merger with Somona GmbH, the warehouse location in Seon reached its performance and capacity limits, which could be resolved with the automated storage system AutoStore. “Companies with large warehouses must constantly work on increasing efficiency, and our robotic systems operate flawlessly around the clock,” says Swisslog CEO Dr. Christian Baur. The goal of this new facility from Swisslog is to automate and volumetrically compress the storage and picking of the dry assortment.
Consistently High Performance
The new AutoStore facility at Bio Partner currently has 44 robots that can autonomously handle 25,000 containers and at least 6,000 products. “The high-tech robots achieve a volume of 900 containers per hour, and depending on development, this facility can still be significantly expanded,” says Swisslog CEO Dr. Baur. Orders are automatically transmitted to the AutoStore facility and processed in coordination with parallel processes, which is a crucial advantage in large warehouses. This allows for higher volumes to be provided in a shorter time. Errors in picking cost time and money, and robots make no mistakes as long as the hardware perfectly matches the software. Bio Partner relies on the modular warehouse management software SynQ from Swisslog to orchestrate the storage and picking processes based on data.
“Our company focuses on long-term, sustainable partnerships. With Swisslog, we have found a strong partner rooted locally. The installation of the facility was straightforward and quick,” says Lukas Mettler, Head of Warehouse Logistics at Bio Partner.
