9. December 2020The Albert Schuon GmbH now offers climate-neutral transport. This is achieved by compensating truck emissions through certificate trading. Customers benefit from an improved environmental balance. Sustainable products can become growth drivers for customers.
(Haiterbach) The Alfred Schuon GmbH will soon offer its customers the opportunity to compensate for the unavoidable CO2 emissions generated during truck transport. The Swabian logistics service provider has introduced a new product for this purpose. Using a digital platform, the CO2 emissions specific to the customer or transport are calculated based on tour data and subsequently compensated by purchasing climate certificates. The proceeds are invested in sustainable projects in developing and emerging countries that would not have been realized without emission reduction credits. This new offering is now available to customers who benefit from sustainable supply chains.
Keyword Climate Compensation
“Currently, there is no competitive climate-neutral mobility in heavy truck transport. Even gas drives only save about 15 percent of CO2 emissions,” says Alexander Schuon, managing director of Alfred Schuon GmbH. The Haiterbach-based logistics company has therefore decided to expand its services to include transport, storage solutions, and value-added services with climate compensation. “Logistics offers companies significant potential to improve their ecological balance. We want to meet this demand,” Schuon explains.
Emission Calculation Based on Tour Data
With the help of a digital platform, the company can accurately determine the emissions of any transport order based on tour data. “From this, we calculate how many climate certificates we need to purchase to compensate for the CO2 emissions,” explains the managing director. The proceeds are invested in climate projects that demonstrably lead to the reduction of greenhouse gases. “This also includes so-called CO2 equivalents like methane or sulfur compounds, which also burden the climate,” says Schuon. The sustainability agency Climate Extender has reviewed the process and confirmed its robustness.
Individual Calculation
This service is not a flat-rate offer. “We can compensate for individual tours, entire tour packages, or logistics processes. Additionally, changes such as further bookings are possible at any time,” says the managing director. On average, about 1.1 cents per kilometer are incurred for the neutralization. Alexander Schuon considers this to be well-invested money: “Without sustainability, it won’t work. We want to enable our customers to reduce their ecological footprint.”
