(Mühlacker DE / Weiz AT) December 10, 2020 – Albert Craiss GmbH & Co. KG has been awarded the contract for the production supply and shipping logistics of a German technology company. At its Austrian manufacturing site in Weiz, the Swabian logistics service provider, together with its newly founded subsidiary Craiss Generation Logistik Austria GmbH & Co. KG, will gradually take over inbound and outbound logistics in the autumn of next year. The German medium-sized company is currently building a new logistics center in the southern part of the industrial city. The general contractor for the new building is the Burgenland-based Unger Stahlbau Ges.m.b.H. The third partner in the jointly founded real estate company CUT (Craiss-Unger-Temmel) is the Weiz entrepreneur Hagen Temmel.
Highly Efficient Production Logistics
“With our many years of experience in the automotive and supplier industry, we at Craiss have the key resources for innovative and highly efficient production logistics: professional employees and a high level of expertise in digitizing complex logistics processes,” says Jörg Schneider, Managing Director of Contract Logistics at Albert Craiss GmbH & Co. KG. For the German major customer, the logistics service provider will begin implementing inbound logistics for the plant in Weiz. Large systems for power supply will be manufactured there. The scope of tasks includes the continuous intralogistics process from goods receipt, consolidation and storage of supplier parts, technical quality inspection, plant supply via shuttle trucks, operating the internal last mile, and supplying production stations. In the second step, in the first quarter of 2022, outbound logistics will commence with the return transport of finished products to the logistics center, technical shipping preparation, as well as sea packaging of machine parts and international shipping.
Logistics Area of 18,000 m2
Specifically tailored to the customer’s requirements, Craiss is currently building the new logistics center on a customer-friendly plot of land measuring 48,000 square meters. A modern infrastructure is being created on approximately 18,000 square meters of logistics space, equipped with extensive crane technology and special equipment, such as heavy-duty handling technology, differentiated shelving technology for processing lean material flow processes, and technical value-added services. Schneider expects the completion and commissioning of the new building in autumn 2021. With the implementation, around 50 jobs for commercial, administrative, and technical employees will initially be created at the new Craiss location.
Entry into the Austrian Market
Strategically, the awarded contract means for Craiss the entry into the Austrian market for industrial contract logistics. The company from Mühlacker in Baden-Württemberg has been active as a partner in transport logistics for numerous Austrian customers for many decades. With the new location in Styria, the Craiss Group is also pursuing its growth strategy in the field of contract logistics and simultaneously expanding its service portfolio in production logistics to include technical quality control and sea-worthy packaging for heavy industrial goods.
