15. December 2020DB Netz AG has taken over the planning and construction of the container terminal in the GVZ Region Augsburg. The Terminal Investment Company Augsburg (TIA) mbH has been dissolved. The operation of the completed terminal will be taken over by DUSS.
(Augsburg) With DB Netz AG as the builder, the container terminal is being implemented as a project of urgent need in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan. The later operation will be taken over by DUSS Deutsche Umschlaggesellschaft Schiene-Straße GmbH. Currently, a facility with two portal cranes and a craneable length of 700 meters is planned for the handling of containers, swap bodies, and semi-trailers in combined transport. The project is currently in the takeover phase. The planning is being reviewed, including all time and cost schedules.
Facility in the Oberhausen District to be Replaced
The container terminal will replace the old facility in the Oberhausen district upon commissioning and is expected to start with 22,000 loading units per year. According to the Federal traffic forecast, an annual volume of 60,000 loading units is realistic by 2030. The facility has a maximum annual capacity of 100,000 loading units. In parallel to the planning of the container terminal, the GVZ Region Augsburg is advancing developments in the Intermodal Service Park for service providers around combined transport on 85,000 m².
“We are seeing great interest in the properties in the Intermodal Service Park. This shows how ripe the time is for a new offering in combined transport. We are therefore very pleased that DB Netz is taking the construction of the container terminal into its own hands,” comments Ralf Schmidtmann, Managing Director of the GVZ Development Measures GmbH of the cities of Augsburg, Gersthofen, and Neusäß on the recent development.
