6. January 2021Albert Craiss is now called Craiss Generation Logistics after reorientation
7. January 2021The logistics service provider Dachser has completed its generational change. With a new executive team, the company enters the new year. Stefan Hohm as Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Alexander Tonn as COO Road Logistics complement the leadership team.
(Kempten) Burkhard Eling has been the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and spokesperson for the board at the logistics service provider Dachser since January 1st. He oversees the Corporate Strategy, Human Resources, and Marketing departments, which also include Corporate Key Account Management and Corporate Governance & Compliance. Eling succeeds Bernhard Simon, who will take over as chairman of the supervisory board of the family-owned company in mid-2021.
Along with Simon, the previous Chief Operations Officer (COO) Road Logistics, Michael Schilling, is also moving to the supervisory board. For this reason, Dachser has made further changes to the board as of January 1, 2021. Long-time Dachser managers Stefan Hohm as Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Alexander Tonn as COO Road Logistics have joined the operational leadership team of the logistics service provider. Additionally, Robert Erni, who joined Dachser from DSV Panalpina on September 1, 2020, as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), has also entered the board. The five-member board team is completed by Edoardo Podestà, who has served as COO Air & Sea Logistics since October 2019.
Career as CFO with a Focus on Innovation
The 49-year-old Eling joined Dachser in 2012 as the deputy head of the board department Finance, Legal and Tax. The following year, he became a member of the board as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and also leads the company-wide strategic ideas and innovation management program of the logistics service provider. The graduate industrial engineer came from the engineering and service company Bilfinger SE, where he led the controlling and internal audit departments and served as CFO of a U.S. subsidiary and an international facility management service provider. Eling began his career at the construction companies Hochtief AG and Philipp Holzmann AG.
With Care and Agility
“My board colleagues and I are taking over an extremely robust and growth-oriented company that has not been swayed from its course by the challenges of the Corona crisis. The people at Dachser have managed to maintain the supply chains of our global customers even under adverse conditions with their enormous expertise and commitment,” explains Burkhard Eling, CEO of Dachser. “With the trust and support of the owner family, we as a board team will preserve the unique, people-oriented culture of the family business Dachser while simultaneously developing the company with care and agility on the path to becoming the world’s most integrated logistics service provider,” Eling continues.
New Executive Team with Extensive Experience
Starting January 1, 2021, Alexander Tonn is new to the Dachser board, taking on the position of COO Road Logistics and thus responsible for the European land transport networks for industrial goods and food. In addition, he will continue to lead the Business Unit European Logistics Germany in personal union. The 47-year-old Tonn has been with the company for over 20 years and has held various senior positions at the Dachser logistics center Allgäu in Memmingen and at the company headquarters, where he was responsible for the global contract logistics business of the logistics service provider for several years.
New Executive Department
The newly created executive department IT & Development is headed by Stefan Hohm (48) as Chief Development Officer (CDO). Hohm has been with Dachser for 28 years and has operationally led the branches in Erfurt (Thuringia) and Hof (Upper Franconia) during this time. Most recently, he was responsible as Corporate Director for research and development as well as for corporate solutions at Dachser. In addition to further developing IT, he will now also take on global contract logistics in his area of responsibility.
Burkhard Eling’s successor as CFO is the internationally experienced logistics finance manager Robert Erni, who took over after a four-month onboarding and transition period on January 1, 2021. Before joining Dachser, the 54-year-old Swiss was responsible for almost seven years as Group CFO for the finance department of the logistics service provider Panalpina.
There are no changes in Dachser’s air and sea freight division. Edoardo Podestà has been the COO Air & Sea Logistics since October 2019. The 58-year-old Italian, based in Hong Kong, has been managing the air and sea freight business of Dachser in the Asia Pacific Business Unit since 2014 as Managing Director. Podestà is also a highly experienced Dachser manager. He joined the company in 2003 as part of the acquisition of the joint venture ‘Züst Ambrosetti Far East Ltd.’
