11. January 2021BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH and Tec4med Life Science GmbH, a startup from the BITO CAMPUS GmbH innovation center, are jointly developing a digital high-performance transport box for shipping temperature-sensitive medications and vaccines.
(Meisenheim) In collaboration with the Darmstadt-based startup Tec4med Life Science GmbH, BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH has been working on the development of a digital high-performance transport box for shipping temperature-sensitive medications. The transport system, certified for pharmaceutical requirements, is now going into production and also meets the specific demands for transporting COVID-19 vaccines. As a consultant, partner, and companion to its customers, BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH offers users complete solutions tailored to their requirements. The spirit of innovation has always driven the traditional company. With its range of solutions, the logistics expert aims to go beyond its own product portfolio: Together with selected startups from the BITO CAMPUS GmbH innovation center, BITO-Lagertechnik is expanding its service offerings with many innovations related to intralogistics. The focus is on joint developments between BITO-Lagertechnik and the startups. This allows the traditional medium-sized company to explore new business fields while supporting the founders in sales to grow together.
In Time for the Global Launch of the COVID-19 Vaccine
In collaboration with the Darmstadt-based startup Tec4med Life Science GmbH, BITO-Lagertechnik has previously worked on the development of a digital high-performance transport box for shipping temperature-sensitive medications. The transport system, certified for pharmaceutical requirements, is now going into production and also meets the specific demands for transporting COVID-19 vaccines. Tec4med has already launched the Nelumbox, a cooling system specifically approved for pharmaceutical transport and medication storage. BITO-Lagertechnik has now developed a GDP-compliant solution with Tec4med that is suitable for storing medications and vaccines across various temperature ranges. It can now be presented in time for the global vaccination launch to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. “The newly developed system also meets the very specific requirements for COVID-19 vaccine logistics,” says Nico Höler, CEO of Tec4med. “The long-standing expertise in logistics combined with our digital concepts from the pharmaceutical industry allows such products to emerge. We are pleased to have developed not only a thermally superior transport container for the temperature ranges of -80°C, 2-8°C, and 15-25°C with runtimes of over 100 hours but also an environmentally friendly and resource-saving reusable system. The seamless integration of the Internet of Things, which not only ensures real-time traceability of the supply chain but also provides a digital, theft-proof seal, distinguishes us from all existing solutions on the market in both thermal and security aspects.”
Comprehensive Thoughts Even Before the Pandemic
Christian Mohr, Product Manager of the Plastic Business Unit at BITO-Lagertechnik: “In the past, we have repeatedly faced inquiries from the pharmaceutical sector regarding special transport cooling solutions, as many regulations must be adhered to when transporting vaccines or medications to ensure the impeccable condition of highly sensitive products at all times. Temperatures must be guaranteed, and cold chains maintained. Thus, we had already given extensive thought to corresponding process optimizations and, in light of Industry 4.0, the complete digitization of logistics, transport, and temperature monitoring of pharmaceutical products long before the pandemic. In collaboration with the startup Tec4med, a comprehensive, digital, and certified transport solution has now emerged that withstands the high and steadily growing demands for transporting medical goods, with a clear focus on the user. Ultimately, the newly developed system combines the requirements from the pharmaceutical industry with the competencies of BITO-Lagertechnik as a traditional company in the logistics sector and the competencies of Tec4med as a young startup in the field of the Internet of Things (IoT).”
