January 2021Kloosterboer, one of the leading logistics service providers in Western Europe, has commissioned SSI Schäfer for the delivery and execution of the steel construction for an impressive cold storage facility at the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The logistics provider offers innovative and sustainable overall concepts for temperature-controlled storage and distribution of food, including fish, meat, fruits, fruit juices and fruit concentrates, dairy and potato products.
(Neunkirchen) A fully automated, deep-frozen logistics center will be built at the City Terminal Rotterdam – the “Cool Port 2”. SSI Schäfer will supply around 4,100 tons of steel and realize the 6-aisle high-bay warehouse with impressive dimensions of 69 m in length, 139 m in width, and 41 m in height. Since the high-bay warehouse is being constructed in silo construction, the side walls and finally the roof covering will be attached directly to the steel structure. As a supplier for the steel construction, SSI Schäfer has already convinced with numerous high-bay warehouses installed worldwide in silo construction. Kloosterboer has already experienced the intralogistics specialist as a reliable partner and secure project executor in past joint projects.
British Sustainability Certificate BREEAM
Furthermore, the requirements for the British sustainability certificate BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) are taken into account during the construction of the building. SSI Schäfer has specifically designed the roof structure of the high-bay warehouse for a future photovoltaic system. The roof will be able to accommodate 2,700 solar modules.
With a storage capacity of 60,000 pallet spaces in the “Cool Port 2”, Kloosterboer is able to serve a wide range of customers.
Construction work on the steel structure began in autumn 2020, and the completion of the racking construction is planned for summer 2021. The commissioning of the cold storage facility is expected to take place in January 2022.
