Jan 17, 2021 at 5:58 PMThe logistics company Rhenus continues its growth strategy and starts this year with the acquisition of the Gelsenkirchen-based LOXX Group as a highlight. The sale is due to the retirement of the LOXX owners and to Rhenus because the company is well-equipped to meet the increasing demands of IT (keyword: digitalization). Additionally, it aims to provide employees with a perspective. The antitrust authorities still need to approve the transaction.
(Holzwickede/Gelsenkirchen) With the planned acquisition of the logistics group LOXX from Gelsenkirchen on January 1, Rhenus aims to strengthen its activities in Germany and Europe, subject to approval by the antitrust authorities. LOXX is characterized by an international orientation with a focus on cross-border general cargo and freight transport. Within Germany, the owner-managed logistics service provider particularly focuses on the Rhine-Ruhr region.
The acquisition includes, in addition to the holding company at the headquarters in Gelsenkirchen, five operational locations based at the headquarters, in Pleidelsheim near Stuttgart, and in the Polish cities of Warsaw, Poznań, and Katowice. “The locations of the LOXX Group form an ideal complement to the existing European network of Rhenus Freight Road due to their strong internationalization and the cultural diversity and competence of the employees. Historically, LOXX has a high affinity for Eastern Europe and has developed into an international full-service provider over the past ten years through the establishment of Western European relations,” reports Thilo Streck, Managing Director of Rhenus Freight Logistics.
The focus of the approximately 17,000 square meter logistics center in Gelsenkirchen is, in addition to cross-border traffic, customer solutions for the chemical industry. The existing agreements with the general cargo cooperations VTL and CTL are to be maintained.
Integration of the Stuttgart Locations and Three Branches in Poland
The location in Pleidelsheim near Stuttgart primarily focuses on Eastern Europe and CIS traffic for general cargo, partial, and full loads. Nationally, LOXX is also active as a regional forwarder for the household sector in the distribution of white goods and in branch supply: “We want to further develop this together with Rhenus Home Delivery. In addition, Rhenus can offer interested customers improved access to Western Europe,” says Thilo Streck.
In Poland, LOXX operates three branches, whose strengths also lie in European land transport. Here, Rhenus aims to integrate them into its independent Polish distribution network. “In light of the increasing consolidation of the general cargo markets and the continuously rising IT requirements due to digitalization, we see better growth and development opportunities for the future of the LOXX Group within Rhenus, improved service offerings for our customers, and a clear future perspective for the employees. For these reasons, as well as the retirement of the main shareholders, we have decided to sell to Rhenus,” explains LOXX Managing Director Alexander Brockt.
The acquisition is subject to approval by the antitrust authorities.
