(Osnabrück) The globally operating full-service provider Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has retroactively taken over all shares of the joint venture Rhenus & Hellmann GmbH & Co. KG as of January 1, 2021. With the acquisition of the 50 percent joint venture shares from Rhenus Freight Logistics GmbH & Co. KG, Hellmann becomes the sole shareholder of the road and contract logistics company based in Großschirma, Zwickau, and Leipzig.
Hellmann has been able to continuously expand its network in East Germany over the past decades and is now one of the leading logistics service providers in the region. The acquisition of the joint venture shares will sustainably strengthen Hellmann’s presence in the new federal states and further increase its market share, particularly in the areas of road and contract logistics.
Rhenus Focused on Rhine/Ruhr, Rhine/Main, and Southern Germany
“Together with Hellmann, we have successfully further developed our joint venture. Given that Rhenus Road Freight’s strategic focus in Germany is on the regions of Rhine/Ruhr and Rhine/Main as well as the metropolitan areas around Munich, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart, we have decided to sell our shares in the East German joint venture to Hellmann,” said Thilo Streck, Managing Director, Rhenus Freight Logistics GmbH & Co. KG.
“East Germany has traditionally been a very important market for us, where we have continuously grown in recent years and where we want to further strengthen our presence. Hellmann has established its network in East Germany over the past 30 years with various locations. As the sole shareholder of the site in Großschirma and its associated branches, we gain additional flexibility to drive the planned growth forward in the coming years,” said Sven Eisfeld, Managing Director Germany, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.
