New DPD Depot in Holzgünz near Memmingen Begins Operations
25. January 2021Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has introduced the BharatBenz ‘BSafe Express’. This is a special refrigerated truck designed for the safe transport of COVID-19 vaccines. Equipped with state-of-the-art connectivity, the BSafe Express utilizes newly developed cooling units that ensure the temperature and stability of the vaccines are accurately monitored and maintained throughout all phases of delivery. The heavy-duty chassis BharatBenz 2823R serves as the base for the cooling unit.
(Chennai/Stuttgart) At the premiere of the truck in the Indian capital Delhi, Satyakam Arya, Managing Director and CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, stated: “The combination of a strong, reliable chassis with a lightweight, thermally insulated cooling unit and a cutting-edge connectivity solution makes the BharatBenz ‘BSafe Express’ the perfect solution for the challenge of cold chain infrastructure in India. With this truck, we can deliver vaccines in pristine condition even to the most remote locations, giving hope to over 1.3 billion people for a return to normalcy.”
Fast and Safe Transport of Vaccines Across India
India recently launched its COVID vaccination campaign, aiming to vaccinate 300 million people by July 2021. The BharatBenz BSafe Express provides Indian logistics companies with a solution to contribute to the country’s goal of bringing COVID under control as quickly as possible. A tremendous challenge in a country with the second-largest population in the world.

The cooling container comes from automotive supplier Motherson Group. It is made from fiberglass-reinforced plastic, XPS foam, and other carefully selected materials that ensure the structure is stable, waterproof, and corrosion-resistant while still being lightweight and providing very high thermal insulation. The container can be assembled on-site in just 96 hours, making it a much more practical solution than conventional products, which can take three weeks or more for delivery.
IoT Sensors for Temperature Monitoring
With specially designed IoT sensors integrated into the container, fleet managers can monitor temperature, humidity, shocks, tilt, and damage. They can also adjust the temperature as needed and trigger an alarm in case of issues. This sensor technology is also integrated with the tracking of all onboard inventory via QR code, allowing users to check the location, status, and history of each package. Coupled with BharatBenz’s ‘Truckonnect’ telematics platform, the BSafe Express offers vaccine distributors absolute security through real-time tracking of the vehicle and its valuable cargo.
