1. February 2021The freight cooperation System Alliance Europe is consolidating its strengths in a registered cooperative. This marks an evolution in a forward-looking digitalization strategy. The adoption of a master plan will take place in the second quarter of 2021.
(Düsseldorf) System Alliance Europe (SAE) is restructuring itself 15 years after its founding. By transforming the freight cooperation from a civil law partnership (GbR) into a registered cooperative (eG), SAE aims to strengthen its cooperation partners and attract new ones. An important component of the structural change is the further development of the IT strategy, with which the European freight network is advancing the digitalization of its network processes.
Implementing Changes

Oliver Rüter
“In the coming months, we will implement a comprehensive program of organizational, technological, and procedural changes that will enable us to optimally meet the future demands of the market,” says Oliver Rüter, Chairman of the Board of System Alliance Europe eG and Managing Partner of the SAE system partner Cretschmar Süd. “Unlike other networks, our members are free in their pricing and tariff determination and in choosing the members with whom they build their own network within the cooperative,” Rüter explains the unique features of the cooperation.
New Technologies in the SAE Network
At the end of last year, a variety of measures were decided during a retreat that mark the future path of the freight cooperation. Walter Konzett, Director of Land Transport at Gebrüder Weiss and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SAE, states: “At the core of our strategy is the issue of transparency. Some of our members are pioneers in terms of digitalization. Our goal is to transfer these proven technologies to the SAE network. With this optimized platform economy, we want to attract more partners – and offer our clients a modern purchasing experience.”
The SAE Agency GmbH, which has so far been responsible for the administration, coordination, and management of the IT platform, will continue to operate as an independent service provider under a new name for the eG and will primarily focus on IT issues. “We expect the new form of partnership to bring increased agility and independence that benefits the entrepreneurial interests of all service partners. Additionally, we will offer our services to a new customer base and leverage our diverse logistics-specific experiences for new developments,” says Uwe Meyer, Managing Partner of the Agency.
Real-Time Communication
This year, System Alliance Europe aims to further develop its own cooperation platform Log-IT. The IT solution is the heart of smooth data exchange and the management of all logistical and administrative processes among the cooperation partners and their clients. “Our customers are connected to the entire data world of System Alliance Europe through a single interface,” explains Rüter. Currently, four million shipments per year are digitally managed through the platform. The goal of the cooperation is to take the next technological development steps with the Log-IT platform, to expand its functionality, and to further increase the level of automation.
The master plan, which will define the development stages and goals of System Alliance Europe for the coming years, is to be adopted in the second quarter of this year.
